    Your Favorite Sandwiches?

I have a couple favourite sandwiches out there, and a couple I am going to have to try making after reading this thread... There is a place in town that does a strange variation on the Shish Taouk that Lizziemaine mentioned. They spell it as Shish Tawouk and it starts the same way with fresh...

    Steampunk, Dieselpunk, etc.

I do love the Steampunk aesthetic: I ran across this today - a German built Steampunk motorcycle that uses a 1440cc single cylinder engine from a tractor and has a front fork built with ash bound in iron. It appears to be based on a motorcycle from a comic book. The shovel seat is a little...

Out of the Humidor: The sad demise of pipe smoking

I quite enjoy the MacBarens blends too, but agree about their hot burning qualities. My MacBaren Plum Cake usually goes into my Falcon pipe. If you haven't seen one, they are a metal 'radiator' stemmed straight pipe with a removeable and interchangeable bowl. Between the cooling stem and a...

what did YOU take in school??

I have never regretted my career path - I am glad now though that I took the time to get an education - however useless it may seem - and see the world a bit before starting on the job. Good luck to you!

what did YOU take in school??

I loved learning the material and I loved working with the bones, but at the end of the day I realised that what made me most enthusiastic about it was the 'solving the puzzle' work - the investigating. I looked around and figured out how few people make an actual living with their PhD's in the...

Has anyone ever been to a real masked costume ball?

The closest I have attended to what you are talking about was a Carneval ball in Venice. The costumes were unbelieveably ornate; even the entertainment was masked and in full costume. I never would have thought about a masked ball as a 'must do', but it really is a lot of fun!

what did YOU take in school??

I got my BSc in Forensic Anthropology with a minor in Archaeology. I have managed to use my degree exactly three times in a little over a decade...

What cigar (or pipe) did you smoke today?

Sure! I didn't know if it was picworthy. The pipe rest is a little silly, but I saw it being sold as a business card holder, and thought that it would make an interesting pipe rest.

What cigar (or pipe) did you smoke today?

This evening's nightcap (enjoying it as we speak) was Kirsten Pipe co's Mariner in my military mount rusticated Peterson, paired with a glass of Altos Malbec red wine. ah, bliss.

    Grumman Goose - Need drawing

That warms my heart as well - I have had a very soft spot for the Goose since I first saw 'Tales of the Gold Monkey' as a kid. If they do get them into production again, I have yet another task to add to my lottery win to-do list. Make mine white with red and black please and to heck...

What cigar (or pipe) did you smoke today?

Very nice choice. I am planning to load my Falcon (Apple bowl lined with meer) tonight after dinner with some Mac Baren's Plumcake and enjoy it with a small cognac. The falcon isn't pretty but between the meerschaum lined bowl and the 'radiator' stem it really cools down a hot burning blend...

    Favorite type of Steak

Ribeye or bone-in rib steak for me please -cooked fast and hot to no more than medium rare, sprinkled with a little fresh ground pepper and some fleur-de-del. I won't say no to a strip loin either, mind you. Although normally I prefer a steak with nothing that detracts from the flavour of the...

    Is Swearing a Vice?

A favourite quote from a favourite movie. Overdone, cursing can diminish any message or messenger. Done well, it can truly be an art. Somewhat on this topic, I saw this link to a Craigslist posting yesterday that descrbes an brief spew of profanity as "utterly delicious".

The Dozen Most Important Cars of All Time

It seems a bit strange to leave out some of the cars that you mentioned - particularily the Tucker and instead include entire classes of vehicles - "Sports Utility Vehicles 1990 - present" is just ridiculous. The Ford F150, though prolific, has never been innovative or influential in my mind...

Out of the Humidor: The sad demise of pipe smoking

The fiddliness of the pipe is one of the things that attracted me to pipe smoking in the first place. It requires a bit of time, and it also requires a little forethought. I smoke my pipe rarely; usually only a couple times per month and never more than once per week, yet I cherish it. I...

    The REAL gangster look

This is a very good point and a trend that continues today with gang members - at least the ones I meet. They dress not for style per se, but with concealment in mind. in a day when suits were the norm this was easier. Now the trend is towards sloppy, layered clothing which serves the same...

Your favorite Scotch? Your Favorite liquor in general?

I will warn you up front that it is not faint of wallet, but here goes - there is a liquor store that specialises in whisky and wine here in Calgary that apparently purchased a whole cask of 28 year Auchentoshan and paid to have it bottled. I will send you the link to the store if you like and...

If I could,..............(What business would you start)???

Sign me up for membership #1, sir. Were money no object, I would buy a Grumman Goose or Albatross and outfit her in classic style but definitely keep the round engines. That done, I would run a private charter service in the Caribbean... or perhaps around the Greek Isles or in some South...
