I googled McReynolds...he was quite a character. He seems to have been a very strange man. I would not have been able to put up with him. The funniest part is that he was a member of the Disciples of Christ. He would not fit in AT ALL today.
I am brand new to caps. Last week I ordered my first cap of ebay. It was an older one and the cap wasn't the 7 1/2 it started as. ( thanks to a members advice I have a hat stretcher on the way to fix this. Anyways, Sunday night the vodka loosened my wallet and I ordered another. It arrived...
While strolling through a flea market today I found a booth that sold just letters and postcards. I could have spent hours there. Most were from the 30s-50s. Post cards from vacations and business trips. Funny stuff. One had a message that said
Dear Francis,
Today I played minature...
We moved here in June. Went from a 2400 SQF modern home to this 1955 cape. If you count the basement it is roughly 2300sqf. Rooms are a lot smaller though. That said, I really like it. Nice neighborhood, with a neighborhood playground you can walk to. Decent sized yard. We can still throw...
I have lots of old ARRL handbooks and antenna guides. It is much easier for me to consult these than to move from the shop, inside and look something up online.
I wear a suit and tie to church. I do it out of respect for God. If someone wants to wear flip flops and shorts, that's their choice. If the whole congregation except me is dressed that way, I will probably be seeking a new church. I don't look down on people due to what they wear. I have...
We live in a 1955 cape cod house. The window sills outside are concrete. I am of the opinion that a planter outside the kitchen window would be nice to grow herbs etc. what I am confused about is how to put it there. How do you mount it? Does anyone have advice, pictures etc?
Ok..you wake up pre WW2. What would you do to earn a living? Could you do your same job? And making money betting on sports...inventing something that doesn't come around for years doesn't count.
I am in sales and cover a 3 state area. My job is tons easier today than it would have been 50...
I would also adjust. Hey, I own tube radios, don't watch tv, I like old guns....I like old cars...I guess the biggest adjustment would be finding a job suited for that time. I still fear the dentist of the past....but I guess I'm good with what they had....
If you could one day wake up in the 20's-40's...and live there, what would you miss the most from today. I'd miss modern dentist. I dread the idea of drills and no pain relief....
If I saw you at a public range wearing a helmet, I would think you were weird. But I wouldn't say anything...have at it but expect looks. If you don't care what total strangers think, do it.
I recently bought a house built in 1955. During a quick search of the backyard with a metal detector found a 1942 and 1951 penny. Neat to me and my 12 yo. In my previous house I found an all brass shotgun shell from the 1880s... Best finds value wise are from banks. Once had a friendly...
I don't have a current, or good picture, but I am a big fan of Great Eastern Cutlery. I am also a fan of Barlow knives. This is an older pic of some GEC barlows, an late 60's Case and a cheap Barlow. I have many more but this is the only pic I have.
As for modern ones I love my Chris Reeve...
