Thanks for the links, TopGumby. I knew there had to be pics here, but the FL search function is not that great, and I did not have time to wade through every thread with "Stylemaster" in it.
On to EverthingAustralian to order my Acorn Fawn, which appears to be a very versatile color. Can't...
I'm normally found over in Hats, but I saw this thread on the main page, and being a shave-a-holic, eagerly clicked.
I don't have the fortitude to wade through this epic-length thread from the beginning, so forgive me if I'm repeating things already asked and answered. Here goes:
First, I...
There have always been and still are The Rules, and it's best to play by The Rules until you develop enough experience to bend and even break Them.
For example, in my younger days, I would have never mixed blues and browns, but as my taste matured, I realized that some such "mismatches" were...
I asked for a photo of the Stylmaster in Acorn Fawn color on the Akubra Overload thread, but apparently my post got buried in that epic.
I'd really appreciate that, or at least a link to a site with a decent pic. I might even go with another earth tone color, so throw me a photo if you have...
I thought you were only into Western hats and did not realize you made fedoras.
I'm in your general neck of the woods and would like to stop by soon. How soon before you get the fedora section up?
Right On
Yep, that's the fedora, and Tomasso, your last pic displays a great view of the bash.
What appeals to me about it is that not only is it a crease you hardly ever see these days, but also you can almost see the finger impressions in the form of the imperfect wrinkles. That makes...
I know there's a thread on hats in movies, but I couldn't readily find it.
"Laura" was filmed in 1944 and stars Gene Tierney and a very young and tall Vincent Price.
It's a very good murder mystery movie, but the most amazing thing to me were the hats. Every man in the film who wore a hat...
I'm going to get a Stylemaster from EA while they're practically giving them away. Might get a couple Akubras. Do I hear three? There's a motion on the floor for four, four going once, four going twice...
But I'm not settled on color, just that I want an earth tone.
If anyone here has...
Welcome to the abyss of finer hats, Hat Head; it's a bottomless pit from which there is no escape.
First off, fugeddaboud Hornet Hats. As the other poster said, that's cheap Chinese crap. Steer clear of the low-end fur felt brands like Jaxon; you won't have one a month before you realize it...
I think some of the previous posters are calling you a fathead. Not me, oh no.
You know, I've heard of fat-reducing diets and exercise for every part of the body EXCEPT the head. Perhaps I could make a mint pioneering this untapped sector. I can see it now, the lean, mean, fathead reducing...
Thanks for that tip.
I, too have an old wool felt loden colored Dorfman-Pacific (someone once called it "Dork Man Horrific!") that, in my typical anal way, I have taken as good care of as my nicest hats.
Like you, I do yard work in it, so it's gotten hot and sweaty hundreds of times, and...
Bill,
Just what "comparable hat in Imperial grade" are you referring to? Is it the same size? Does it have the same brim width, crown dimensions, hat band, and sweat band (the Heritage hats' are larger)? It couldn't, for Akubra makes no such hat and never has.
The sum total of all those...
Well, Bob, that's interesting.
Right now Everything Australian shows the BP to be $125 (Australian) and $22.80 (Australian) for the least expensive S & H--10 days. I filled out everything through the online checkout process except my credit card info, and it never did give me the cost in...
I personally loathe leather hats because they are very heavy, make my head sweat no matter what the weather, and any kind of headgear constructed of animal hide just seems wrong.
But everyone likes something different, so if you like 'em, fine.
Having said that about hats, you may be...
I've used ScotchGuard for years on everything from the carpet in my cars to, yes, headgear.
First off, today's environmentally friendly SG does not work as well as the old kind that punched holes in the ozone. I'm sure of this because I recently found an ancient can among the paint in the...
Ditto previous comments on the Sydney (AKA The Fedora).
It's the most comfortable right-out-of-the-box hat I've ever owned or even tried on, including crushables, and is the only hat in the Akubra line that's made of this felt.
Though the brim is stiff enough to snap up or down as you...
There is an extra hat rack in my basement I now know exactly how I'll put to good use.
It's a floor-stand type, about 5 and half feet tall, made of chromed metal--heavy chrome metal.
I plan to take it with me to the next restaurant that does not provide a place to put my hat and place it...
I don't have any pics of my Banjo Paterson handy, but David Morgan's web site has several that are better than any I could ever provide. This link will get you to a page that has a 360-degree rotating 3-D image that shows the hat's crown extremely well...
Their Basque Wool Beret Style No. 51 appears to be top notch, but the pics are small and not that clear, so I can't get a read on whether the label is sewn to the lining, if the lining is full or partial, or if the band is real leather or maybe bonded leather.
Hoquy's were discussed...
