Tailor Tom, I highly respect your opinion but there is just no way I am going to fiddle with my buttons on a DB each time I sit or get up. ESPECIALLY the inner button. My suits are mostly of very old, very heavy fabric. I have to side with Lokar on this one.
There is nothing wrong with having been a guest of NY State for a night, and I see nothing wrong with quitting a job because the music sucks -- I think it is a beautiful aesthetic decision (as long as one can pay one's bills and does not require my taxes for his bankruptcy).
All we need here...
Wow, I read the whole thing ...
... it took about an hour and a half.
My thoughts: yes, the punks had a similar disdain for modern society. I was a punk in the 1980s. In the early 1990s at Club Deluxe in SF I ALWAYS saw very vintage dressed up dudes with old punk tattoos so there was and is...
Hello Gentlemen,
Paul Fredrick, whom we have mentioned anon, is newly sponsoring an UGLY TIE CONTEST. Prize is a fat $500 gift certificate, and even if you hate their (sometimes vintage-inspired) clothes, they do carry e.g. herringbone socks and plaid socks. Alls you need to do is enter a...
Well-said.
And well do I remember the early 1990s at Club Deluxe on Haight Street when one would see a guy at the bar in a perfect 1950s sharkskin suit, pompadour, gorgeous skinny tie ... and an old blue tattoo across all ten knuckles reading "SKIN HEAD."
That would be quite a mistake for a tailor to make.
Dammit, I'll post pics soon. I'm horribly busy. Staying at home and writing all day takes more time that one expects. (I'm on fellowship this semester, writing my PhD dissertation, and would you believe it -- I get LESS work done than I do...
10 inches at the ankle. The cuff is 2 inches, not 12 inches.
The trousers are perfect. I must have said something that was misconstruable if what I said sounded like the trousers had 12 inch cuffs.
The arm-holes are prefect on this one -- again, I explicitly told them what I wanted and used both the terms arm-holes and arm-scyes.
Now I just need to fotograf the whole thing.
If classic style (not really vintage in these examples) spreads, that's lovely. I enjoy looking at nicely done-up folk. Makes me feel like the world is a bit less chaotic.
Uh oh, I hope I'm not going to spark a political conversation here ... goldurnit.
Not as high as you and I might want, I'm afraid.
I have a few things by them. They have some good ideas, as you can see. They are not members of the Fedora Lounge by a long shot, needless to say.
I also usually wait until their stuff is on sale.
Scroll down to note ensemble worn by gentleman of African descent in fedora and DB.

The buttons on the jacket may be a bit closer than we are used to, but ... that ain't bad looking.
Wow!
Wow. Scotrace's grampa (the last photo, young cat with boater) is not only the coolest boy in the neighborhood but those lapels are quite, quite close to mine.
So now we have it. The definitive, established precedent to the lapels I have.
Well, again, thanks gents for the...
I WAS WRONG.
I wrote to them. They wrote back . It turns out that I WAS WRONG.
For the suit-template I chose from had a THREE-BUTTON JACKET.
Somehow I got confused in the (short) wait and thought I'd ordered a 1-button jacket suit. WRONG WRONG WRONG.
So the only thing weird about the...
I'll take a well-read person who disagrees with me on substantive issues over a poorly-read one who doesn't, any day. And I am always more impressed by people who say
"I don't like the picture this evidence paints, but it seems sadly true"
over people who insist
"this evidence contradicts...
