    Do you own a Tux?

I have quite an array of formal wear. One set of full tails, three sets of SB peak lapel dinner jackets (1 worsted, 2 heavy wool from the '40s) and one off white shawl collar DJ. When I was a professional musician, I wore these all the time. Now I make occasions to wear a DJ. Aniversary...

    Which religious group?

"Mormon" I'm the other "Mormon" in this poll. Not too many of us here it seems. We discourage the use of that term now-a-days. The official name is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I'm not harping, just putting that out there for info. It doesn't bother me.

    Swing Music

Try to find some Phil Harris. I don't know if any of it has been transfered to modern media. All mine are still on 10" 78s. Old Golden Era L.A. type stuff.

    PROPER tea drinking

I agree with the no cell phone policy. It would be nice to have some places left where one can converse with one's persent company and not have all the outside distractions. Personally, I enjoy a cup of Irish Breakfast tea before Officer's Call in the morning. I was in Croatia a few days...

    The Battle of the Atlantic

dh1, I used to play on the coastal batteries on the Jersey side at sandy hook. From what you describe it sounds like the same type of concrete bunkers.

    The Adventurer's Gear Thread

Fellow adventurers... I leave tomorrow on another Med/Middle East deployment. I'll be back in late winter to early spring. I hope to be able to make some posts during that time, but I'm usually band width challenged. I'll try to keep you updated here with any new gear I pick up in my...

Purdey safari jacket As promised long ago...here is my Purdey safari jacket. It is unlined brushed cotton twill. Four ouside pockets and two inside pockets, one with a button the other with a zip. A close up... The inside has a draw string and straps so you can take off the...

Fedora Lounge Club Tie - NOW AVAILABLE!

Opt A looks great, especially with the herringbone weave. Just wear the FL lapel pin if you feel the need for a logo. It is still on the subtle side, but ties it all in (no pun intended).

I believe Cabela's has a leather vest too, but it's pretty steep if I remember.

    USN officer's khaki working uniform

Current issue khakis don't have the correct pocket flaps. However, Dickie's shirts do. The down side is that they don't have a full placket front (which can be hidden by a tie) and the poly-cotton material. Also, the trousers have those wide belt loops (Dickie's khakis don't match current...

What will, or did you get married in?

I wore my black cutaway with cravat and top hat, and spatz! My best friend wore the same. My wife's gown was a light pink silk with pearls. It was just family and garden party to follow. No pics to show as we were not yet in the digital age.

    18th century people

I'm new at 18th C. reenacting. I have a hunting outfit and a flintlock. I'm a shooter by trade and with using the latest technology all the time, I wanted to go back to a time when you had to rely on your own knowledge. I am also an avid hunter and outdoorsman, so getting back to the basics...

    The Adventurer's Gear Thread

Back online Well, I'm in my new house in VA. I bought a Purdey safari jacket just before I left Newport, RI. It's a fairly heavy, but soft cotton duck with four bellows pockets and an internal draw-string waist. No belt. I didn't want a belt because I would rather have a thick leather belt...

    Capes/Cloaks

Meaning it's not a required item for anyone. If I have it, I can wear it to the Navy Ball or I could wear a bridge coat or even a rain coat depending on the weather. They are not making Ensigns purchase a $500 cloak that most will never wear. That's what we are issued the all weather coat for...

Are you a Fogey, Old Boy, Old-Boy-Hip, Hip or a Slick

Fogey at heart, but old boy for practicality. I live in Virginia most of the time, so 24oz tweed can only be worn about 2 months out of the year.

    Street scene

I was at Marti Gras a few years back (it was a port visit for my ship. The sacrifices I make for my country!). One night I ventured off the ship with two friends. I was wearing a simple grey 3 button suit, white shirt with a yellow bow tie w/ blue polka dots and a black fedora. I got SO many...

A Lot o' Mottos: What are your words to live by?

I just finished the Surface Warfare Officer School Department Head Course. We were caught in the middle of a curriculum change, so things were confusing and in constant flux. Our class motto was: "READINESS THROUGH BITTERNESS" because change was the only constant.
