Vintage clothing: when is enough, enough?

Well, I don't do actual vintage, mainly I use vintage looks for a "classic style" inspiration. However, I'm quite strict with myself. I just don't see a use for overbuying/overcollecting. The problem is, there's always something that you will like or want - whether new or old - and it's easy to...

is it possible to catch Christianity

Sometimes couples have a wedding ceremony that only includes close friends and family, and then a larger wedding reception. It's possible that this is the case in the wedding you attended.

    Don't emulate this look!

Yes, I've seen more socks worn with sandals here than anywhere else I've ever lived. German men also wear really short shorts. When I lived in Italy, you could always spot the German tourists by their shoes and their shorts. :D

A fine kettle I've gotten myself into...

Well, I know I'm biased ;) , but I think the English tea kettle is much nicer looking than the Revere one. And after all, isn't the FL about combining style with function? LOL

A fine kettle I've gotten myself into...

If you prefer a more classic design, I have this teakettle in chrome: http://www.stonewallkitchen.com/prdsell.aspx?Search=kettle&L0=EnglishTeaKettle I love it. The handle is wooden, and it does whistle! I've ordered several things from Stonewall Kitchen. Their service is excellent, and...

What do you do for Living?

I'm a former RN who then took on the hat of homeschooling mother and housewife (if you ever want a challenge, homeschool your children through high school!). I'm now a housewife who volunteers part-time at the local library. I'm absolutely happy with my new "career". :)

To all of you guys and gals with Ph. D's, Ed. D's, Ed. S's, etc.

Well, I'm going to give slightly contrarian advice .... If you are interested in your PhD, the university will always be there. It's true that you may not have a "free ride" in the future, but most people I've known who have truly wanted an advanced degree manage to get it. But your...

    Vintage Bathing Suits

:D And thanks to our modern-day-vintage-style pinup models, vintage style lingerie, girdles and fully fashioned stockings are readily available! :eusa_clap And if, like me, you are rather ... ahem ... religious (or repressed, however you want to look at it LOL) you appreciate not having...

    Don't emulate this look!

The other day my son and I were out running errands. As we were walking, a young handsome man (late 20's or so) came walking towards us. He was dressed in jeans, a sweater vest over a button up shirt, and a dark blazer. Quite nice looking, actually. :) But as we started to pass by we both...

    Girdles, Corsets, and Underpinnings

Thank you for all the replies! I've spent most of the evening researching girdles .... :p Just one more quick question: Do open bottom girdles "ride up" on your bottom when you're moving around a lot, or do they pretty much stay put? And thank you, LizzieMaine, for mentioning that...

    Girdles, Corsets, and Underpinnings

For those who wear "shapewear" daily I'm wondering if some of you who wear shapewear/girdles daily could share what you wear? I currently own two Rago long leg high-rise girdles, the 6209 and 6207. They're wonderful for what I wanted them for - good shaping under slim dresses that also allow...

    fusing modern/vintage styling

As a female, I would love that. Right now, women's magazines are all concerned with current fashion, and there's virtually nothing available (at least that I know of) that will help women who want beautiful classics with that touch of "romance" create a wardrobe. I don't want cheap feeling...

Different types of dresses in the 1930's? How to dress for each one?

This is what my grandmother did, too. Though near the end of her life, her daydresses were all polyester double-knit. She just loved that stuff, because she never had to iron it. :) She even made a quilt for my mother out of leftover polyester double-knit patches! LOL The aprons my...

    Face Powder Face Off

I prefer the Besame. This powder never goes an "off" color on me (some translucents I've used in the past go orangey/beigey as the day wears on) and it also has the incredible staying power of the Besame eye shadows. It seems just as fresh at the end of the day as it does when I apply it. And...

    Don't forget your POISE

But in real life, people will notice and judge how you are dressed and the way you act long before they get around to your personality and principles, however stellar they may be. That is why "first impressions" - on job interviews, dates, etc. - are considered so important. People will form...

    Shirts - Hanging or folded?

I launder, iron, and then hang my husband's shirts. The problem is that wardrobe space is at such a premium (no big walk-in closets like in the states) that sometimes the ironed and hung shirts get wrinkled. It's kind of a lose-lose situation ...
