Titanic to Be Re-Released in 3D for 100th Anniversary

I don't think that 3-D will enhance the movie but I think that I-Max will. I never saw the movie theatrically during it's first release, and saw it on home big screen instead. I will take the wife out for a romantic movie night.

    Scala New Yorker?

I've got a Scala New yorker in grey. I like it, it looks good and gets compliments. Nice to have a full liner and leather sweatband. Yes, it does not have the smooth look of a nice fur but it's still nice. Comes in a nice brown too. I paid fifty bucks for mine at a local hat store.

    Handwriting Improvement.

I agree with getting a nice quality beautiful pen. I've always enjoyed using a beautiful pen. I used to love the slim line pens but my encroaching old age has led me to appreciate the thicker models.

Information requested about old Florsheim shoes...60's, 70's, 80's,...40's?????

I have a pair of shoes that are very similar, except that they are all smooth leather. Bought them and a Bill Blass suit for my college graduation in 1980. Still have them as I haven't worn them since the early 80's. And I had real platform shoes, mostly one, and one and a half ins. but also a...

Ok, so some things in the golden era were not too cool...

Rue, I certainly don't think you are foolish. There are things we should cherish and hopefully sustain within ourselves and those we love.

Ok, so some things in the golden era were not too cool...

If you romanticize anything you will see it through rose colored glasses. I like the aesthetics of Golden Age style, the music ,fashions, architecture, and especially the cars. While these cars are beautiful, they are nowhere near as safe as a modern car and the highway deathrate reflected...

What's On Your MUST SEE New Movie List?

I just saw the new Misssion Impossible this evening in IMAX. The film technique and effects are amazing but the story line is just so-so. Maybe I'm just getting old, lots of noise and flash just don't impress me much. For the most part the new releases don't grab my attention and the two movies...

    A "Picker" just called...

I love the show and watch every episode. I used to be a picker for vintage car parts. My wife has a side business selling furniture, antique, and home decor items in a consignment shop in the Bay Area. We comb yard sales, flea markets. estate sales, and thrift shops looking for items. She will...

Let's See Your Watches! The Vintage Watch Thread.

Love the watch and photo! I have a Hamilton 1932 replica gold tank that my wife bought me about 25 years ago. Love it and wearing it now. I guess it qualifies now as vintage. I also have a Seiko wafer thin black tank that always seemed too fancy to wear regularly. Wore it once to work and...

Stiudo apartments. Need ideas on how to vintage-fy.

The best thing about a studio apartment is that you'll be able to make all the decorating decisions yourself. Live by yourself, live the way you want. Even though my wife really makes all the decisions about decor, I have been able to provide limited influence, not always to her approval. Enjoy...

    Countdown To Christmas!!

Tonight I took my family to a local production of "It's a Wonderful Life". It was staged as a 40's era radio drama with a Foley artist seated at a table and six actors providing all the different roles of the story. Prior to the show there was a demonstration of how all the different sound...

    The End of an Era.

Styles change. Mores change. Society changes. After WW2 the economy had opened to a wider participation by all segments of our society. Increased prosperity, increased access to education for all Americans. There was increased acceptance of different cultures and social classes. All this input...

Vintage Car Thread - Discussion and Parts Requests

I think that it is good advice to rebuild the steering and chassis components first, the drive it as much as possible. I think if you operate it within it's design limits it will be fine. Little thing like extra rear view mirrors, turn signals and updated headlamps will make it safer to...

Vintage or Modern Radio Drama Recommendations?

I have found several radio drama collections on cassette tapes at very low prices at swap meets and vintage stores. They usually work out to about a dollar a tape. My favorite so far has been 12 tape collection of "Suspense". Luckily I still had a good cassette player.

    What Are You Reading

I am reading a jumbo anthology of Pulp age detective fiction;" the Black Lizard Big Book of Pulps" It's over 1,200 pages containing over fifty stories and two novels. The stories remind me of an hour long tv show. The action moves quickly and the resolution of the mystery takes place in the...

    Pencil Mustache

Yesterday I watched "The Misfits" on TCM. This was the last movie of Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe. Gable was still sporting his pencil mustache, it sure looked great on him. Here was a man who had aged with dignity and class. He died a few weeks after completing filming. It's clear that we...
