I had a buddy that used to wear one occasionally. We might have made comments among ourselves but not to him. He was a 6'5'' 350 lb. Samoan former college football player.
He "owned it!"
Nice looking hat! I'd say go with the grey one it's a little more versatile. Surprisingly, brown will also work with lots of outfits, especially jeans and such. Brown doesn't seem so formal and strictly dressy. When you get it start wearing it around the house and then on short errands so you...
I would aspire to dress better in contemporary clothing with a vintage flair. Wearing a fedora is pretty much all it takes. I would dress in some vintage clothing if I could find it! Large sized vintage is few and far between but I keep my eyes open.
I like streaming directly to my laptop, I always have to get my kids to help me stream to our tv.
Just watched "Where the sidewalk ends" and "The turning point". Going to watch all their film noir!
My comments are a little out of sequence on this subject but it is sad. My parents bought a set in the early sixties, bought the senior and junior series, both bound in leather with gold printing on the covers. I bought a similar set, but in black leather for my family in the nineties. I...
I was always a motorcycle guy and didn't get a car until I was a couple of years out of high school. It was probably in 1974 when i got my first car, a 66 Ford Mustang coupe, with a v8 and four speed. Think I paid a couple of hundred dollars for it. Not a bad car but it was what my Dad wanted...
Wow, I just got a headache after reading that post, though I do think it was well thought out. I'm just here to have fun. Mostly interested in 40's era cars and art deco architecture. This art deco influenced the styling of radios clocks etc. I like hats too. I'm not a serious collector but I've...
I voted for the Big Sleep because it was based on the Chandler novel which I preferred to the Hammet novel. I think the movies version of the Maltese Falcon is better than the book. Although Key Largo has such a great cast and Bogie plays such a conflicted man. Love them all watch them all.
I agree with those that believe that at one time people shared a much better set of values. There's a lot to be said for a little Golden Age courtesy and self restraint. All we can do is try to live the best and set an example. Not that anyone else is likely to notice or care.
I've found that the newer cars with the forward projecting headrests are the problem. My old 96 Mustang convertible has plenty of headroom for my fedora and the headrest is low and angles back.
On my 07 Mustang the headrest hits the back of the brim and pushes it around. My 07 F150 is better but...
What do mean you hate veneer? Most furniture of the forties used contrasting bands of different colored and type of veneers that ran in different directions. This was used as a decorative pattern. All "waterfall" types of furniture use this type of construction. All the old radio consoles of the...
I have recently bought a poly suit and sport coat. I think that they look pretty good. As I was clearing out my closet I realized that all of my old tweed sport coats and suits (unfortunately now way too small) were all wool. At work I used to wear all wool uniform pants. Recently I started...
Just going to start the latest Michael Connely," The Drop". Got it for Christmas and have been saving it for my trip. Also received, "Humphrey Bogart, Tough without a gun". Read and enjoyed that right after Christmas. Now that I've caught up with Connely's books I'll have to buy them new.
I have one of those repop record players a "Classic CR" in a darker tone wood with a real vintage looking radio dial. I like the way it looks. The cassette and cd players are on opposite sides. It plays my old 33s pretty well and sounds okay to me. The turntable assembly is very cheap, with no...
I'd have to agree that there are different definitions of the term "Man Cave". I think that most here would think of it as a personal library or study. Not a TV pit with a fridge to eat nachos while watching the game. It would be a place that you could display some of your collections; books...
I remember watching the show when I went over to my grandparents house back in the 60's and 70's. I used to watch it at home with my folks sometimes. I have the six record Readers Digest anthology of champagne music. I was sampling the discs and it did bring back memories but I prefer my big...
