I hope this won't seem too off-topic but all of this music was played (and danced to) during the Era, especially the 30s.
Here in New England we still have a lively contradance scene - the music and dancing have almost died out a couple of times, but revivals came just in time. In the 20s and...
As you say, there are any number of cardigan patterns out there. The Vintage Knitting Lady has categories, so you can see four pages of Fair Isle in one place here: http://www.thevintageknittinglady.co.uk/ladiesfairisle.html. Her site has lots of other patterns, with lots of textural interest...
Thanks for the feedback, Clarissa. In the meantime there do seem to be some other wearable oxfords out there:
-- The Børn Arline, which comes in black and rust: http://www.bornshoes.com/Product.aspx?ProductID=7986
-- Børn Arletta: http://www.zappos.com/born-arletta-walnut-leather and...
Stunning, and you wear it beautifully! I love the blog post and the information about the pattern as well!
PS - I like the sleeve length in your version better.
Well, nuts. I found the Munro Ascot oxfords I liked for half price, but the color bronze is actually bronze *metallic*. (I found this out after I ordered them - no wonder they were half price.) :eusa_doh:
Since these are good-quality shoes and I need a low heel, I'm considering desperate...
I like the Munro Ascot oxford. The price makes me gasp, but I just tried the Naturalizer Jodell, and although it is much cuter, it turns out to be a bit too narrow and high of heel for me (even in the wide size).

Great thread. My problem isn't color so much as texture. My original-issue hair was fine and nearly perfectly straight, and I would cut it in various cute short bobs (think Louise Brooks or Vidal Sassoon sculptural looks). I'm in my late forties now, and it is becoming coarser and wavier. (I...
Crikey, I've spent the entire afternoon and evening making a facing and sewing it into a dress. Of course this is the first dress I've made since 1981, but I really feel as though I put the slow in slow clothing. I read comments by experienced seamstresses who turn out garments in what seem to...
Not a film, but I really enjoyed the BBC Series Wartime Farm. Period aficionados might have to cut the presenters a bit of slack -- Ruth Goodman's clothing seems a bit off, and there have been some complaints about the exact date of the tractors -- but it does what it sets out to do and I...
Hello Ladies and Gents,
My name is Alice, and I've been on a 40's kick since seeing the BBC show Wartime Farm. I was born in the 60's and grew up mostly in the 70's. My grandmother (who was born in 1910) lived with us, so I heard about life in the early part of the 20th century from someone who...
