The End of the Collector Mindset

Well, here I am, 9 plus years into this thread, and 78 years into life. I didn't really start collecting until I reached 50. Then just bought stuff I liked, and lots of it. Nothing exotic, nothing really expensive, just a lot of stuff. Sure, I have given some away, sold off some of my...

Don't Call me. And for Heaven's Sake, Don't Knock: 21st Century Taboos.

I don't particularly like texting. My fingers are too big and won't hit the right keys more than half the time. I absolutely hate family texting strings. But they all love it. I don't talk too much on the phone, but when I do, it's because I have something important to tell the person I...

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

I found one in a bone yard (junk yard to some) and scavenged the horn and seats out of it and installed them into a 53 Plymouth Cranbrook so I could have "bucket seats". This was 1963 or 1964, I'm not sure, but bucket seats were just coming into fashion. I even put seat belts in, because I was...

    The Worth Of A Penny

See a penny, pick it up, and all the day, you’ll have…… ………a penny in your pocket. For, after all, a penny saved, is just a penny, and it won’t buy much of anything. But, if you find twenty-five pennies, you’ll have two bits. For, as we all know, two bits, four bits, six bits, a dollar. And...

You know, you got a little too much time, when...

I once had too much time, but I wasted it on the way. Now, I waste time thinking about the time I wasted. It's a viscous circle.

To beard or not to beard?

Keep your beard, your sanity, your personalty, and your good looks. Your beard defines you, so march on, proudly. Yes, there are companies that are not impressed with or tolerant of beards. I think they are better than someone with snake tattoos on their necks and face.

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

USED CAR LOTS. Growing up and into my early adult years, there were independent used car dealers almost everywhere. I lived in Cleveland, Ohio back in the day (forties through eighties) and used cars were available everywhere. Good and newer cars were generally in the front rows, and...

    "Being Henry"

I just finished Henry Winkler's book, "Being Henry". It is an easy read and is filled with insights perhaps not known by most folks. There are a LOT of references to actors, directors, producers, and shows many of us will not recognize. There are some revelations and lessons I took away from...

Vintage things that have REAPPEARED in your lifetime?

I think everyone should perform some type of government service in their lifetime, be it military or civil. For too long it has not been the case, and complacency has taken over. These days it seems that people expect to be handed free stuff and services without ever have given back.
