I still catch myself thinking "I hope I can make the next John in Covina cookout" :(

Having some trouble with my Indy Magnoli suit

Oh, yeah, the jacket. I could have some more buttons sewn on and turn it into a DB. lol Thanks folks for the compliments and the advice. I feel like a new man, so a new suit is definitely in order. It's just that that ol' suit and I have had some good times together, it'll be sad to retire it.

Having some trouble with my Indy Magnoli suit

Thing is, I really like that suit, it's still in great shape after nearly six years. The trousers would need to be taken in by about 11 inches and I suppose it's possible, but where would the back pockets end up? Would it be a fashion faux pas to eliminate the back pockets entirely? I never...

Having some trouble with my Indy Magnoli suit

Yep Daddy! One year ago these trousers were so tight on me I thought they'd burst.

Driving golden era cars in the modern era

I was nervous the first time I drove a column shift, but the thing to remember it's an H pattern just like a floor shifter. The hardest thing to get used to while driving a 3-speed is only having one intermediate gear between bottom and top gear. On the other hand, cars with 3-speed manuals...

    Bow Ties

Well, with my neck, I've given up on finding vintage bow ties, but here's a new one from R. Hanauer. And go figure, it was easy to tie! It's a bit narrower and fits way better.

    Bow Ties

Hey, I may just have gotten the hang of the damned thing

    Bow Ties

Yep, it's too wide (vertically) for the space under my chin, I need to find a narrower one. It's the only one I had lying around though. I have a red one on order from bowties.com and I'll give that a try. What I want to find is a white piquet formal tie the right length, but they're had to find.

    Bow Ties

Have to admit, that video shows the vital penultimate step better than anything else I've seen. Thanks. But I'll need more convincing. lol

    Bow Ties

Best effort today, and boy are my arms tired. As any scientist will tell you, experimental data is not valid unless it's repeatable, hence the dubious expression on my face. I still say it's impossible.

    Bow Ties

Yes, I know, I've heard it all before. I managed to tie one badly about five years ago, haven't been able to since.

    Bow Ties

Nice try you guys, but tying a bow tie is of course impossible.

I've seen petroglyphs on the Big Island, they're real enough. What I haven't seen on the show yet is rain, and you know those mountains on Oahu don't get that vibrant emerald green without a lot of rain :) The show is fairly silly, but I watch it for the scenery. :)

Vintage televisions, anyone? Post pics here!

For a graphic demonstration of the voltages in an early 1950s TV, watch the movie "Suddenly" starring Sterling Hayden and Frank Sinatra. lol

Only one thing worries me. If Don ever quits drinking, will he ever have a heart-to-heart conversation with anybody again?
