Howdy gang. I have been AWOL for a while. Was cleaning out my photos and thought I would share a sad sad story. I am a real estate agent. Last year I sold a house that was an estate. the owner was an old man and a hoarder. Apparently, he was a regular guy, but his brother was quite a ladies...
The funny thing is, most old guys often wear stuff from the 70s, when they were last buying clothes for business. But the way they hang on them, the ever present ties, the high waistband and belt all make them look pretty darn vintage anyway. Sadly, many old people are starting to look pretty...
Wow. Just wow. I am impressed. Care to share the details? To be honest, I thought the Stetson would be tough, but it wasn't the one I had in mind as the stumper. But I couldn't find the pics for that one. Will have to see if I can locate them.
This was one of my favorite threads ever. Surprised many others don't feel the same. I will post another couple hats to keep it going. But I warn you, one is a stumper.
Quick word of warning. Poster below has quickly identified both, so if you care to try your hand, refrain from reading...
I guess there is a semantic issue here. If it is not matching, is it a suit, or separates. The early costume show that men often wore mismatched. I doubt they went to the tailor for a new suit of mismatched clothes. Rather, they bought trousers and jackets and wore together. the whole concept...
Yes, very wise, and don't wear a brown fur coat.
A gatherer of underbrush for florists was shot in the olympic national forest or thereabouts. He was wearing black. Days later, a man came forward claiming he shot him thinking he was a bear, and thinking he missed. Very sad. I gotta say...
Point well taken. Are you referring to the Salal gatherer who was recently shot? A real tragedy. I am in Seattle, so that has been in the news a lot up here.

Some 70s shirts could work, but not very well, as the collars tend to be too wide up and down. 30s and 40s tend to have longer narrower points. Plus fabric. If you have a good eye, you might be able to find one that works. Keep in mind, the look of the 70s was inspired by the 30s and 40s...
Well, I didn't start the thread to complain and I am not now. But I dare say, when you live in DC, you can pretty easily expect to dress as you do and expect to get some positive feedback. But a little different living in Idaho, nevada or some other rural place. But good for you for looking...
Since starting this thread, a number of interesting things have happened. Mad Men became a hit, the metrosexual crowd seems to be getting dressier and dressier, and there is a new trend that comes on the heels of the tatoo/circus performance/ burlesque/absinth? thing. I see guys in a somewhat...
I might accuse you of cheating though. Not on the Fiance of course. I mean, wearing the khakis with 50s looking shirts, black glasses etc might put you pretty squarely in the rockabillyish/gearhead/tatoo culture thing. Which would make you kind of him in a lot of circles. (being a bit...
I see you use part of the DENNIS system. Scare them until they call you in to protect them. But maybe you don't follow it through all the way.

I am surprised no one has addressed this more technically. The first part is speculation on my part. But it seems in the twenties and thirties, in hot climates, and summer, when a tie would be too much, the style developed as a sporty look. With the thin fabric of collars back then, it looked...
I like this shirt with the over the collar look, as it is slightly informal due to color and texture. But not sure about with the ascot. I tend to think open neck, over collar, but with ascot, looks best tucked in under collar. But great suave look all the same.
Sold.
This is a cool safari or slouch type hat. Made for Willis and Geiger. They are an old school outfitter. I think they went out of business and the brand was revived. Don't really know. But I would assume that the hat was made by a third party company anyway. It is an olive color with...
