Melbourne watch repairer
Splatt, excellent history on the watch. It must be very precious to you. I can recommend a very good watch man in Melbourne. He is retired and works from his house specialising in mechanical watches and clocks. He is reasonably priced and can do anything from get it...
I got this from a car site, thought you may like it.

Tanks for the info. I think the lenses are plastic, don't feel at all like my B&L aviators. Not sure I'd put thinners near them.
Love the clip wing H-1 BTW !
Adjusting plastic spectacle frames
Well, sunglasses actually.
I did a search, but couldn't find anything. If this has been covered before apols and please point me in the right direction.
I picked up some Clubmasters the other day and need to adjust the arms. I must have a funny shaped...
The AOPA Navitimer dates from around 1954, but I'm not sure of how long the production run went for so I can't date this watch accurately. Someone here may be able to enlighten me further.
The Navitimer can be a bit chunky sometimes. Hard to wear under an A-2. My all time favourite...
Wow!
Well there you go. This has been bugging me for ages.
Thanks for the great link. I considered this as a non Brietling question as lots of early chrono's have these chapter marks.
I would have sworn it was a navigating thing like the 1 in 60 rule or something. Interesting that...
All,
Apols if this is a fairly abstract question but this has been puzzling me for some time. I'm impressed with the knowledge here so I thought I'd give it a shot.
Why do vintage chronograph's have a marking on the minutes dial at multiples of 3 mins?
Many old chronographs have this...
How about a Sea-Gull?
I know, a Chinese mechanical watch?
I don't have one...yet. These are very affordable and very vintage in style.

Uhhh, not sure that the "stainless" claim is accurate. Fog inside means moisture inside. Even when its not fogging the moisture is still there. There might be some stainess components inside, but its a quartz watch, and there are integrated circuits inside that will corrode.
Last I had this...
I have a Rotring Espit with a fine point. I suppose it depends on the paper, but its a little scratchy for my taste, and the nib is not wide enough. I had a very nice entry level Pelikan with a wide narrow nib. I'm looking for another.

I bang into stuff often. I blame the Martini's :) You can remove scratches and scuffs from acrylic watch crystals with a metal polish like Brasso. Just put a little on a rag and lightly polish the crystal. Wipe off when dry. Dont bear down too hard, especially if its a vintage watch as you may...
Well, I might recant on point 1. Getting a shave at my barber this ayem, he had a tank watch by Tiffany. White gold, guilloche dial, blue steel hands, sub dial and quartz. Who'd a thought! There is something about blue steel. Maybe there's room in my chilly old heart for a quartz watch after...
Thanks for the great responses. Wearing my wristwatch on the inside might cut down on fraying my suit trouser pockets. I work at a desk so I will try it for the weekend and see what feels more natural.

Can anyone tell me about the practice of wearing a wrist watch on the underside of your wrist.
I did a search to no avail, and I didn't want to hijack the thread of wether you wear your watch on your right hand or not.

I'm sure there has been plenty of quartz bashing over the years, so I'm not going to go there - they have their place and I have seen some nice ones.
I have been wearing vintage and modern mechanical watches in office and on site environments for over 20 years without problem.
Recently a...
I did it myself at home in the shed. I had a guy do the hot work as I don't have a welder - dashboard and floor pedal seals are welded in. My wife as travelling so I had a pretty clear run at it.
