I'm not sure if you've seen the Aero Leather USA picture gallery site but it was definitely a huge help for me when I was deciding on the Aero leather jacket I ordered. You'll be able to see for yourself what jacket styles you like and what looks similar to the Highwayman...
^^^ Thanks Andrew. :)
Well, I just got off the phone with the sales rep from Pecards... I went ahead and ordered myself their antique leather dressing in 16oz size so I should have it later this week in my hands.
What I found interesting is that Pecards leather dressing is a...
How does Conmar compare with Talon in terms of zipper quality?
On the Mash-Japan site there is a Talon zipper I'm considering but I'm wondering if this Talon M-39 zipper would be appropriate for my jacket or if it's only meant for military jackets...
Thanks for posting that site link, pipvh. :)
Yeah, I'm definitely not going to bother getting that elasticized area restored... not worth it for me because then the jacket would fit too tight in my torso area. I like it a bit looser anyhow. :)
Hey Andrew (Speedbird)... I enquired with...
I forgot to ask one question... on the back of my zipper slider it says,
"Conmar USA BW 34"
Any idea what the BW stands for and what the 34 means?
Thanks,
Navin
What's up Andrew!
Yeah, hopefully Mash-Japan can source me a Conmatic zipper... I know they definitely have regular Conmar zippers... I believe the Conmatic ones were designed so they don't jam or get stuck.
100% agree with you about the elastic... if you think about it, if the elastic...
Hi Andrew!
Thank you so much for responding to my post here... I truly appreciate your time in helping me.
Finding an identical jacket to my vintage leather jacket may be close to impossible... my plan was to obtain the conmatic zipper from any jacket that I can find (would suede or...
Correction to my earlier post... after examining the zipper slider in the upper chest zippered pocket, that zipper slider says "Conmar", not "Conmatic" like the main zipper slider, and it's also a slightly different shape, therefore I don't have to worry about trying to match the zipper slider...
Hello Gents,
Per the advice I received from my friend, Andrew (Speedbird), I'm making this post to seek the advice of you zipper experts including ASWATLAND on resolving the zipper issue with my vintage jacket.
The zipper slider has the word "Conmatic" and on the back of the slider it...
Hi John! I checked out that japanese site... very cool! They do carry the Conmar zippers but not the Conmatic one that I have.
I wonder... if I purchase one of the Conmar zippers that the japanese site sells (most of those Conmars appear to be from military style jackets from the 50s) then...
Hey Joe!
You're so right, my friend. You've all convinced me not to have the jacket dyed... my new motto, "JUST SAY NO TO DYEING", haha!!
Take it easy,
Navin
Thanks Steve!!! You all have convinced me not to dye it... I'll preserve its vintage look but still get the critical stuff fixed like the lining replaced, seam tears fixed, and oh yeah... those storm cuffs removed. I've decided to have them removed.
Thank you so much!!! Hopefully you or your wife might have the specific Conmar zipper I'm looking for... says "Conmatic" on it just like in the link that I posted earlier in my thread here. What a great hobby you have in finding stuff at thrift stores to cut apart the zippers.
Blessings to...
Hey John!
Great to meet you! I will heed your excellent advice and not get the jacket dyed. Thank you so much for attaching that picture with the elasticized area... I will take that picture to my leather guy to see if he can restore it in my jacket.
In the event that he cannot, should I...
Wow!! That's an amazing point you made about how my new Aero is the one for me to create my own personal journey and own the future marks/scratches I make in the jacket. You're so right!! I actually owe it to the previous owner(s) of my vintage Irvin Foster jacket to NOT DYE IT and preserve...
Hi Ukali! Great to meet you... I've enjoyed reading all your posts here and admiring all the lovely jackets you own. :)
I don't know... every part of me says to dye those faded areas on the arms and shoulder... I'd rather be the one who "makes the marks/scratches" to the jacket thru my use...
Now comes the hard task of finding a replacement zipper... preferably the same Conmar one that I have now. Somehow I have a feeling I won't find one and will have to resort to the more common YKK one, unless any of you know where to source older zippers.
Wow... I found the exact Conmatic...
What's up Aaron!
Haha... thank you so much for both compliments! My wife actually made me get a haircut yesterday at the hair salon she goes to since we're going out of town this weekend to Pittsburgh where my wife is originally from to celebrate her dad's 70th b-day. I like the haircut...
Sorry to hear that. :(
Hopefully once you receive the jacket you'll be pleased with it and it'll be to your correct specs this time around.
I'm originally from Utah myself... almost spent the entire first 8 years of my life in Tooele (my family moved to Utah from Arizona when I was only...
