    Terms Which Have Disappeared

Mountebank. I may be the last person to use that word in a conversation. The person I was talking to commented on it. He knew what it meant, but was surprised to hear it used.

Was there a "Fox News" back in the day?

They used to call it "reporting the war from Mahogany Ridge" (the bar in the hotel they were staying at).

Go far enough north and you will encounter the 103 foot tall Mount Royal Cross on top of Mount Royal, Montreal Canada. The top of Mount Royal is 819 feet above the St. Lawrence River. It has been a landmark since 1924 and aviators can see it from many miles away.

Removing Wall paper from an old shipping crate

I have removed lots of wallpaper with steamers and often found 100+ year old pencil writing underneath. An art restorer might have a better answer. Possibly warm distilled water applied with cotton balls.

    Hard cheese

Not sure what you are driving at, but Dutch Gouda is a hard cheese and has been an article of international commerce for hundreds of years. They probably had Gouda or something similar at Waterloo the first time around.

    Electric Fans.

Old fans move plenty of air but are noisy especially on high speed. Most have only one speed or 2 at the most. Best place to get them is local yard sales, thrift stores, auctions etc. They turn up in old neighborhoods and small towns and farm sales where people have room to store old junk.

    THE RETURN OF THE tUCKER????

The same people built Tucker repros several years ago, with fibreglass bodies and Cadillac front wheel drive power trains in the back. I don't know how many they sold, if any, but it is a legit company and they are capable of building the car. I don't think they have any intention of selling...

Mr. Moto gets a boxed set

I have a couple of Mr Moto films that came on DVDs 10 or 15 years ago. They are a typical 30s mystery/adventure yarn like the Sherlock Holmes or Charlie Chan films but without the humor. The quality was bad and they wouldn't play without freezing or skipping, hope the new ones are better.

Great Gatsby theme on a Long Island estate swimming and hydroplaning in the afternoon, twenties jazz band and dancing in the evening, cocktails made with the good stuff (from Canada) with someone jumping in the pool in evening dress at midnight.

You know you are getting old when:

That was Gordon Sinclair for you. The script was written in a few minutes, and aired as one of a series of "Let's Be Personal" pieces he did for 1010 CFRB radio in Toronto. Every day he did a news broadcast at 11:50 AM preceded by "Let's Be Personal" at 11:45. This was Gordon's slant on some...

She probably sat on the knee of a Civil War veteran lol. In point of time she could have sat on the knee of John D. Rockefeller who lived from 1839 to 1937.
