Made a burrito tonight. Made refried beans with black beans bacon and onion, put it on a whole wheat tortilla and added some fresh lettuce, tomato, green pepper, red pepper, ranch dressing and hot sauce. It was delicious.
With it I had Mighty Tea black iced tea with lemon juice and Stevia.
A few years ago I saw the pictures of the Hollister "riot" in uncropped, unedited form. When you see the whole picture it becomes obvious they were faked up and posed for effect. I expect the boys thought they were posing for 'gag' pictures, and were surprised when Life magazine made them into...
There are campgrounds but a lot of them turn away trailers and motorhomes more than 10 years old. They want to keep out the riff raff.
I would like to show up with a 1985 Rolls Royce towing a 1985 Airstream 32 foot Excella and say 'how do you like me now?'
Tried something new tonight. Cooked the rice in tomato juice. It was awful. Might be good in the right kind of recipe but I had it with chili and broccoli.
Dupont's profits from WW1, ha ha there weren't any. They borrowed millions to build new plants for war production and when the war ended the government unilaterally cancelled millions of dollars worth of contracts with no compensation leaving them badly in the lurch. Then they came after them...
Lead paint is harmless unless you eat it. Unfortunately, with children this is always a possibility. If the paint tests positive for lead do not just seal it or paint over it. Use it for a doll display but get a new one for the kids.
They kidnapped Charlie Chaplin and held him for ransom.... 2 months after he died.

Just finished Insanity Fair by Douglas Reed. Published in 1938, it is the best analysis I have seen of the political events leading up to WW2. Reed was foreign correspondent for English newspapers and lived in Europe for 10 years before the war. He spoke fluent German and visited Germany...
I'm fond of corned beef hash when I can get it but have you seen what it costs? It is not cheap anymore. The last I bought was $2.75 a can and that was on sale. As for buying corned beef and making your own, I wish I had one of those wooden bowls with the matching curved chopper that used to be...
There were sign painters who made a business of painting advertisements in windows. They often had a regular route they went around, each week they would go to all the grocery stores and paint the week's "Specials" in the window, with illustrations and cartoon figures. They would also do...
Our local theater allowed smoking to all patrons when I was a kid. In the late 60s smoking was restricted to a smoking section at the left rear part of the seating area near the ventilator exhaust. Smoking was not banned entirely until the eighties. At that time this was all at the discretion of...

In the fifties I had a German shepherd called Chief. It had nothing to do with Indians. I was a fan of the Superman TV show and Clark Kent called his boss Chief all the time. I thought it was funny.
It's called revisionism. Henry Ford was a master at publicity and was probably interviewed and quoted more than any other industrialist. He built up a generally pro Ford mythology (except for the anti semitism thing).
Only in recent years have revisionists come along to emphasize his mistakes...
I also remember Ford introduced the $5 day when average wages in the auto industry were half that, and that he started a Sociology Department to gather information on working conditions and living conditions, in an effort to improve his employees' lives.
Or that he built hundreds of small...
The only time I have seen "bread and butter" used that way was in the first Topper movie. There is a scene where a squad of cops in a hotel lobby join hands and "rake" the room to catch a ghost. As they go around a small table, hands still linked, one cop says "bread and butter".
Ford also commissioned more than 1000 buildings by Jewish architect Albert Kahn including some of the biggest factory buildings in the world. Ford was a strange quirky character. It is impossible to sum him up in a single garish political poster.
My study of Ford's life and work has led me to...
New England and the northeastern US used to be great cider country. The custom was to plant random apple seeds and whatever grew up, got made into cider. These "wild" apples tend to be tart and sour, and make better cider than sweet but insipid "dessert" apples.
If you want to make old...
