They say your hair is strongly heritable from your maternal grandfather, so I knew long ago that I was likely doomed as far as keeping my hair. I can't say that I like the fact that I am going bald, but I can say that it's not something that I put much thought into. When it gets to the point...
Unfortunately my moustache is not graying evenly either. It is showing a range of colors from brown to dingy gray to silver. According to my wife it is still acceptable in appearance and she is unfailingly honest about such things, but I fear those days are numbered.
I missed this post until today. I have read pretty much everything your father wrote that I could get my hands on over the years. I greatly enjoyed Yondering when it was originally published. I will be sure to pick up the new book. Thanks for keeping the work going.
"When a gentleman is tempted to color his facial hair to cover it becoming gray, he shaves it off".
I don't recall where I first heard that, but I agree with it. I still have mine, but I have not been tempted yet.
I do. For some reason I still looked at them though just to see if he came up with something decent.
Generally not, but since I didn't really expect him to, I wasn't disappointed.
We tried it this evening. My wife wasn't impressed, nor was I in the beginning and we shut it off. On your recommendation I will try it again when she is gone some evening.
Both of my grandparents homes were equipped with locks like that. My dad's folks rarely locked their door and those locks were still in use when grandma moved to town around 1981. My maternal grandmother did finally have my dad install a deadbolt after my grandfather passed away, but the...
I had a 60s vintage Electrolux sweeper. My wife wanted a new upright because she hated pulling a wagon around behind her. I have spent money on the upright. The friend I gifted the Electrolux to has purchased one belt and bags.
I find that statement, which is no doubt coming from a beneficiary of the "lot of government " you are paying dearly for richer than 4 foot up a bull's @#s.
But having worked in municipal government it may well be that I am a bit cynical when the commoners are told to shut up and pay.
The waste...
One of my coworkers insists on buying work boots from Walmart. The cheaper the better, preferably from the clearance rack. He also constantly complains of his feet hurting. I have tried to convince him to spend a bit more because he will be much happier day to day and will prevent problems down...
Bottled water is proof that people will buy anything at most any price if it is convenient. I have often wondered what my grandfather would say about paying 2 bucks for a pint of tap water in a plastic bottle.
I recently saw an article discouraging people from refilling their empty bottles from...
The Weber Showcase and Fixture water tower is interesting. I assume it was there for fire protection. All of that wood, stain and varnish would be hard to put out once it got started.
I have always been a blood donor. The blood drawers usually like to get me because the veins in my arms are easily visible and easy to hit. I have often been used as a training donor for new people because of this.
I once had an old lady who stabbed me 5 times and never hit the vein. She could...
