Oh, I'm a dyed-in-the-blood Hat People fan. By "first" I was referring to the Full Cut (my fault, that was unclear). I already own three Extra Full Hat People Newsboys. I have owned several other caps over the years - including Kangol, Dobbs, Capas, Dockers, and Hanna. I still have the...
Now that spring is at hand, I guess it's time to renew my efforts to sell off a few warmer-weather items that might be of interest here. I have more photos (or can take more) of everything here, so feel free to ask. Prices do NOT include shipping. Will ship to U.S. and Canada.
Sale Pending...
I think marketing and distribution may have held it back a bit. From shopping online, I found few vendors who carried it, mostly in only one color, with limited sizes. Most said very little about what the open crown concept was (some just showed the shaped photo, no description, which was...
I recieved my newest acquisition some time ago, and I've been meaning to post pics. Of course, I kept forgetting to take pics. When I did, I kept forgetting to upload them off the camera, and then I kept forgetting to... well, you get the idea. But, here we are. Better late than never. My...
I have found my Fed brims pretty consistent. Once, I bought three different colors at the same time. I found the crowns different in stiffness, but not the brims. Could be luck of the draw, though.
I'm thinking that a few wears in the rain will soften that tawny quite nicely. You might have...
I haven't bumped into fedoras, specifically. But I have seen fur felt derbies and westerns. They may start popping up soon, though. The canvas and straw fedora styles are becoming quite popular with young women up here in the NE, and on the west coast. Perhaps it will lead in the right...
I, too, find that fit has a lot to do with it. And by fit, I don't necessarily mean that snugger is better. But my first Art Fawcett lid stayed well-seated in a tornado. Sounds like Kansas weather to me! Still, I wear a newsboy as much as possible for windy weather, unless rain is also...
Don't let the Australian location fool you. If the Fed IV was available in the states, you would spend as much or more on it after the import taxes and what-not that the vendor would have to tack on. As gtdean48 says, in the US, your choices are all second hand.
It's possible that the hat started out with that taper, but the new crown shape just amplifies it. In any case, I would recommend either sending it out for a reblock (since you'll probably spend just as much finding a block/form to use on it, and possibly mess up), or just let it be.
