    WWII Crusher and Garrison Caps

I think this is interesting- it's a late '40's (I think) Luxenberg USAF hat that's a blend between the two styles. Luxenberg made some of the finest WWII crush caps and this retains many of the features- backstrap and smaller cover, while using thew new design- stiff brim, solid peak, etc...

Fit comparison Aero vs 1947 half belt vs M-422A

That was my point- I thought it would be interesting to see three different types of jackets and how the fit and sizing can vary between the styles, yet still fit the same person. The Bootlegger is only on loan for a bit from the original owner, it's not my jacket, and to be fair to Aero it is a...

Fit comparison Aero vs 1947 half belt vs M-422A

Thought this might be interesting to some of you. This is a vsiual comparison of the fit between these three jackets. The Aero is a modified Bootlegger (thanks Jack!!), the gaberdine half belt is an original circa 1947 and the M-422A is an original. The Aero is marked a 42 and the others are not...

    Need Advice: Crusher Cap Opportunity

Yes- you've got it. Also the service hats have a larger diameter cover, the crush caps are about 1" smaller in diameter. I'd hold off on the purchase. Keep an eye on e-bay or save up for one of Dave's Flighter repros: www.diamondcapco.com Cheers Mark

    Need Advice: Crusher Cap Opportunity

Check this link: http://acmedepot.com/keepemflying/crusher.shtml Gives a great overview. Almost any visor hat is sold as a "crusher" these days, but most are just regular sevice caps. not that that isn't authentic, as many fliers could not afford (or were unable to obtain) a "true" crush cap...

    40's bomber jacket

Northernaire has a nice local ring to it. I like things that remind me of Northern Minnesota (where I grew up). unfortunately it's hard to make a good jacket name out of "taconite", and "iron ranger" doesn't quite sound right...:) Cheers Mark

    40's bomber jacket

The jacket is loosely based on the pics below- we decided to do away with the epps and add a two piece back. I didn't realize how close I came with the collar until I looked at these again, I just used my favorite pattern. Guess my sensibilities really are stuck in the late 40's... Cheers Mark

    40's bomber jacket

Thanks everyone- this jacket was alot of fun to make, especially the pockets and the stitching on the back of the collar. I think the yoke needs to be scalloped though, have to add that to my next one. This jacket was a custom for a friend, but I can always make more. have to think up a good...

    40's bomber jacket

Just finished this last night (except for the cuffs, I always seem to be short one pair for some reason). It's my version of a classic 40's bomber jacket (have to think up a name for the style- something catchy, yet subtle) made out of seal brown goatskin, mouton collar, wool coat lining, Talon...
