    The Agents of F.L.A.S.K.

Bobcats are becoming common here in Illinois. The state denied their existence for years until they became numerous enough that it could no longer be plausibly denied. We now have a limited hunting season for them. Panthers, many of them black, are occasionally seen as well, though again the...

Okay your nerds and nerdettes... what gear ya runnin'?

There's not a darn thing wrong with 7. We still run it at work because some of our software likes nothing newer and virtual doesn't work as well as the real deal. I'll keep it until they take it away from me.

^^^ I may be the odd man out but I actually like creamed tuna. And creamed beef as well.

Coronavirus: What Vintage Skills Can Help Prepare for a Potential Pandemic?

Can't say I'm particularly shocked by this but wow.

Coronavirus: What Vintage Skills Can Help Prepare for a Potential Pandemic?

Yes bleach will most likely be effective. Another alternative is hydrogen peroxide. I'm not a fan of commercial hand sanitizers. I've seen the demonstrations of their effectiveness. Not nearly as impressive as washing your hands.

Coronavirus: What Vintage Skills Can Help Prepare for a Potential Pandemic?

We are most all occasionally guilty in lapses in logic but things like this are becoming too common and make me question the time remaining before idiocracy fully overtakes us.

Coronavirus: What Vintage Skills Can Help Prepare for a Potential Pandemic?

One of my stepsons is getting married in June. His wife to be had to deal with that a month or so ago. Her dress is not from China but unbeknownst to her the bridesmaids dresses were all coming from there. There is not a delivery date as of this time so the orders were cancelled and the...

    Your Most Disturbing Realizations

This is a source of ongoing amazement for me. I'm sure not knocking on the kids here because I see it in all age groups. Too many people simply have no grasp of the fact that their only purpose in employment is to accomplish tasks that contribute to the good of the organization. Or to be more...

That the musky smell in colognes are from a deer's sex gland?

Decatur, Illinois smells like rotting soybeans. I guess you can get used to anything over time.

Hmm. Out of all the potential topics for a first post here.

You know you are getting old when:

I'm still a few years away from retirement at my present profession if I make it that long. I'm not entirely sure what I will do with my time after that and it doesn't really matter to me what it turns out to be. The one thing I look forward to on that day is throwing my supplied cell phone on...

    Today in History

On this day in 1945 that group of young Marines we all know so well raised the flag of the United States of America on Mount Suribachi during the battle for Iwo Jima.

    wood heat/Coal heat

My grandparents had a gravity wood furnace when I was growing up that was their major source of heat. In later years they did install an LP gas Warm Morning stove in the living room. I can still hear my grandpa padding down the basement steps before daylight to stoke the furnace. Thanks for the...

    Counting Your Change...

I have a few coins and bills I've received as change that I have wondered why they were in circulation. Either desperation or somebody getting into the stash in grandma's dresser drawer would be most likely. Either way, it always makes me feel a bit bad.

So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

This is a pet peeve of mine whether it is volume control in public or people who think loudness helps their case in any disagreement. I really have nothing to add that Dr. Hertzler didn't cover in my signature line below.

    Ghost signs

I have observed that adult children are great advocates of the philosophy of community property. There are a number of things that were in my possession but are now in theirs. Oh well. One less thing they will have to deal with upon my demise.

    Then and now

I am greatly in favor of preserving historical buildings. What I am not in favor of is forcing people of limited means who happened to be caught up in the preservation zone not being allowed to use their personal property as they see fit. I don't know how these things are done in other areas but...
