I wanted to revive this thread, as I just picked up my latest JW hat. Like other reputable hat makers we all know and love, JW uses the finest quality Winchester felt rawbodies. He offers 100% rabbit, 100% beaver, or a 50/50 blend. He mostly does western hats, but offers dress hats as well...
$100
This hat is brand new in the box, never been bashed or worn, includes unused foam for precise fitting. Ships anywhere in the continental USA for free, outside USA shipping costs apply. PM for details.
Recent AB in action pic, for your enjoyment. This was an afternoon hike with my family up a nearby canyon, mostly to see the leaves. The weather was crisp and cool, this is my favorite time of year. My wife took this pic, then photoshop'd the frame, I thought I would share. The jacket is my...
I am a suit size 40, with a chest measurement of 38 exhaled and 40 inhaled. My Aero is a 1940 contract A2, and I understand they might fit slightly different than the 1938 contract. I went with the size 40, and I can wear a dress shirt or a tight weave close fitting sweater type shirt under...
All Magnoli Clothier pieces are custom tailored garments. Magnoli has been an active member of this forum and the Indygear.com Club-Obi-Wan for some time. All of his designs are recreations of period clothing or replicas of movie clothing. None are re-issues. All are designs created by him...
Both My Aeros are in my sportcoat size. My Barnstormer is loose enough to layer under without being baggy, and my A2 is almost form fitting. Mark will help you determine the best size.
I am sure the jackets will look great. However, I am also in the camp of breaking in my own new stuff. That way it takes on my own personality, and it becomes mine, not a replica of something I saw in a museum or in a movie.
When it comes to movies, I like to consider words written by Roger Ebert. "It doesn't matter what a movie is about, it is how well it is about it." Or something like that.
Some good cases in point. The 1993 movie "The Fugitive" with Harrison Ford. One of the best movies ever made, still...
I've seen the rust knits with Russet colored leather, and I think it looks good too. The rust knits are pretty unique to Aero, now and in WW2, and I think they distinguish the jacket, whether seal or russet hide.
Thank you all for the kind words.
Details:
Standard brown FQHH, but I did ask for the darkest shade brown available in that hide.
I got the red tartan wool lining, and asked for two interior pockets, which I got. I also asked for two additional belt loops on the back, an idea borrowed...
New Aero Barnstormer
All I can say is, wow.
I have an Aero A2 already, so I have first hand knowledge of Aero's quality, but this surpassed even my high hopes. It fits great, it is superbly crafted, but I only have one photo right now because it is too hot to wear it for longer than one...
I was always told wearing hats will rub your hair out and make you bald, but I've learned that isn't true either. It's genetics, you'll either go bald or you won't. I do believe if you haven't started balding by 30, you wont go bald.
Ok, that narrows it down. I still recommend an Akubra, they have fedora models with shorter crowns, although I can't remeber names. One of the more common ones is the Federation IV available at www.hatsdirect.com
The newest Fed (IV) has a shorter crown than the last version, but I believe...
Any number of tasteful fedoras would be great. I have a slender face, and find that I can still wear one even with a 2 1/2 inch brim. Akubra is a good place to start for less money. Art Fawcett is a great place to start for a little more money. What exactly were you hoping for in asking...
I've only got a high score of 23, but I'm working on it. I don't belong to the local gun club, a bit pricey, but the public range has skeet or trap available 3 days a week. I love shooting as much as I love hats (and clothes).
Andykev, thank you for the suggestions. I am currently watching Bogie's movies one at a time, when I have free time (about 1 a month!), and that is not fast enough. Thank goodness for the IMDB, you can see stills from all those movies. Casablanca and Angels With Dirty Faces both have very...
