Heyhey to all the hat hounds! I picked up this hat last weekend..i am guessing its a panama but this is my first deliving into "the world of Panama's" so any advice is cheerfully accepted. As you can see it has the words "Okonawa Air Way Air Cooled" on the sweats. Does anyone know how old this...
Been struggling to find the above 4piece die set for my FASNAP hand presser tool..company is waiting for re-shipment which is "on a slow boat from China"..been waiting a month now. I need to make snap closures on newsboy caps and i picked up a used FASNAP machine thinking it would be easy to...
Fedora Family.
Greeetings and salutations -While most reproduction roads lead to Japan as most of us know, i am hoping that there is some sort of trade fare i can attend state-side that deals with reproduction haberdasheries like zippers buckles etc. I've heard of the magic trade show in Las...
Hi guys- Does anyone know where i can purchase a roll(s) of the decorative tape/ribbon that one finds at the seam of a leather sweatband ? I've been searching online for deadstock vintage ribbons but i dont think it makes much difference as newer hats also use the same textured or ribbed tape...
LnM -thanks for weighing in..strange how precise information on such a game-changing event like dry cleaning tags on garments is not readily available.
heyhey good people-
Even google couldnt spit out a definitive answer for this one...
Ok so here's what we know, the first dry clean patent was issued to an American in 1855. For any history buffs out there, the inventor was a black man who also happens to be the fist black man to be awarded a...
Ok guys i think i'm going with "cotton club" the problem is i need to abbreviate "cotton" (somehow) so is "cot'n " too much of a massacre? Proper english aside, i cant have more than 4 letters so i am thinking 4 in front and 4 in back. Obviousley i have calculated that the apostrophe will not...
hats off to all for diggin deep i checked that sites long list..impressive and good to have as a reference..but most being two words would look like a billboard on a sweater i think..breakin the words front and back is an option - depending on how inticing the words.
for example, here's a word you wont hear on your teli or sunday paper - "Shindig" but again, too long for my needs..and wrong decade in addition..ok well i may overlook a slight gap in decades if the word is compelling enough i suppose.
breezer- what i'm saying is i want to avoid words that are overused in the here and now..i'm hoping to run into a word that is "discontinued" or seldom used..a vintage word for a vintage jumper iow.
crow as in reefer ? since my last update i thought of J'BUG or J-BUG (jitterbug) but i think it'll get lost in the abbreviation plus googling reveals so many j-bug outfits like car parts supplier etc. s-i-g-h!
thanks guys..
Jelly - unfortunatley 5 words..
Soul - appreciate the point but too contemporary (or atleast 60's) sounding..
Jazz- again too contemporary sounding
Jook- i'm chewin on that word..would also look good aesthetically on a sweater..will update.
thanks guys- 4 letters is the objective..i thought of jazz but hopefully diggin a little deeper might yield that one word i'm searchin for.
Guppy- i'm well aware of the past history and obviously i am not seeking out an offensive word..there's plenty of positive words still swirling around so...
Heyhey- Any word smiths up 'n here ?
Your collective heads-up cheerfully accepted..
i'm trying to create a 4 letter patch to go on my antique sweater...i am searching high and low for a 4 letter word that best describes the 1920's-30s black american experience...there are plenty of long words...
funny thing about dressing-the-part, you may start out trying to impress " the neighbors" but if you've done it for many years, then it becomes an extension of your character, it is part of what defines you..so you do it even when no one's watching.
Mathematicus - Beltbacks from the early 20's ? Are you referring to the European Norfolk suits ? Speaking of 20's, I would love to get my hands on a Jazz jacket..i'm trying to match one up to my 20's knickers. Another 20's item I have seldom seen are the Oxford Bags..only ever did see one chap...
seen that too..yea right, if he could get those burn marks to disappear then he can quite his day job..he can make a s#@t load just preforming miracles.
re:$500, even thats too low nowadays, thats the starting price (assuming its a belt back ofcourse)- good luck with just 5 bills.
