Shinki Horsehide Jacket
I have a Good Wear Rough Wear A-2 in a veg tanned, semi-aniline Shinki Horsehide and it is a sponge in the rain. Like you, I live in a very wet climate (Oregon) and the jacket simply can't be worn in the rain, unlike a pigment dyed jacket. Beautiful and stunning jacket but impractical like a...- Juanito

Old smells, that immeditately transport you back in time?
Field burning, when you used to be able to do such "outlandish" things. Nothing like smoke in the air in the late summer, early fall. Honestly, the L.L. Bean jackets are a dime a dozen (well, actually about $50-$125 on eBay) an have zero historic value. They are very high quality jacket, but I can't imagine anyone being upset with modifying one, unless their concern was that it wasn't accur enough with the hand warmers and...- Juanito

Get there as soon as you can...the bankruptcy of Evergreen Aviation and Del Smith's demise have certainly put its existence in jeopardy. I live about 7 miles from the museum and visit regularly. I would tend to agree. given the raw dimensions of the US Authentic size 44 jacket I have/had, it should have been close. The largest departure from other similarly sized jackets is the shoulder measurement which impacts total arm length at the wrist and how the jacket drapes over the shoulders...- Juanito

I would not stay away, particularly if you are looking for a low cost jacket that I am certain would outlast all others, save for the LW Dubow.
