Purely my observations, but more recent jackets seem to have longer sleeves. I don't know if this is just a consequence of people wearing a size smaller these days and thus having the arms short. But, almost all the jackets I've seen from the '90s onward, seem to have really long sleeves...
Hey! Leave some 46s-48s for the rest of us! ;)
I need to find me a nice early original G-1 some time. It's good to know that one can be had for a reasonable price. Nice find G-1_etc!
My understanding was that the B-24 was like the Liberty Ship, i.e. a truck. They were slapped together comparatively quickly and cheaply, they handled like a box of rocks, but they got the job done.
By comparison, I heard that the B-17 was a pilot's plane.

Wow, that would be a great experience. I've always wanted to fly in a war bird.
It must have been an unreal thing to see. I've spoken with guys that said that the the skies would be blackened with bombers on some of those raids. They did have Oxygen, but like most things back then, it was...
Personally I'd hold out for the 48 if 46s in general are almost right for you....which is the case for me as well. Plus, with the Cockpit wearing on the shorter side, going one size up won't be an issue for you.
Now that's for a nice mil fit (or as mil as I get these days). If you like a...
Absolutely, and those are very pertinent questions if you are throwing down some serious clams for a repro that is "supposed" to be a spot on historic match. We all know that there is more than a little license used in that regard! ;) I totally agree.
Still, for something that is such a...
Hey Mike,
The thing I really appreciate about the 100 Mission is basically that I could wear this jacket and believe that it is a '60s era G-1.
The leather is great goat and broken in in such a way that it doesn't look like somebody sanded it and beat it in that unnatural way that some makers...
I had the same experience as Peacoat. If your gear needed repair, you could take it to the paraloft and the rigger/flight equipment dude there might repair it according to his level of skill. As these jackets were flight equipment, there was no requirement for the repairs to look nice per se...
I think the fit is perfect. You don't want it to fit like a shirt and there is just enough generosity in the fit to look "war time relaxed" and not like a bag of cats.
Looks good on you!
Good points!
Honestly, I think the lack of knowledge is the biggest issue. I was pretty attached to my first real flight jacket free or not. But if someone had showed me or told me that they were made better (which some will dispute) in the past, I think I'd have been pretty keen on having a...
Nope, I'd agree that if you spend anywhere between $500 and 2 grand for a historical flight jacket, you should get one that fits you and fits historically if that was a selling feature of the jacket.
I still do find it funny though that pilots, who are generally obsessed with the dream and...
It's the military...there's ALWAYS Powerpoints! LOL!
Yeah, I agree that I didn't much think of it back then. I did think it was cool though and my jacket was special to me. I still find it weird that so many pilots don't at least have an interest in the history of their jacket.
It's a very...
Well, I can't help you in the trouser department.
But I'd like to say that that jacket looks awesome on you. There's something about you that looks quintessentially and appropriately British and thus entirely at home in an Irvin....like your name should be "Sinn Jinn" or something.
Good luck...
