Good info, thanks. I remember when the International was introduced (re-introduced?) back in the late 1990s and I should have bought one then, removed the tag, and been wearing it for the last 20 years.
For what it's worth, it's common among luxury and "luxury" brands to have variations for...
I guess this means all the hipsters who bought A-2s a few years ago have moved on to something else and are dumping them!
With luck they'll do the same with condos and houses here in Ontario, soon...
The astronaut on the right appears to be wearing a WEP jacket. This shows the overlapped cloth on the trailing seam of the sleeves, to shape them. I like the cloth elastic waistbands on these jackets; it's a bit tougher than real knits and easily washable.
I'm sure amateur and professional historians will take us through a bunch of hoops to prove that the USAAF had some cunning plan in mind when they listed two different colours, but I'm sure the truth (probably now lost forever to us) will be banal. Building on your suggestion, I'd bet that in...
Remember that the U.S. military was much less unified in those days than today and procurement would have been a much less organized thing.
There are different shades of black, too.
I thought I would post this oddity here: the leather turnout coats worn by sapeurs-pompiers in France in the 1980s and 1990s. Now they use nomex or textile coats, of course.
If I were you, I would remove the incorrect tag and just wear and enjoy the jacket! Mind you, it does look a size too big on you, so maybe you should sell it on.
^ Great looking coats, friend. In the past I was never a fan of short trenchcoats, but nowadays I can see the advantages. My grandfather called them "car coats" and they were short so you could get into and out of a car easier, since here in N America we go everywhere in cars.
The knits with seams are not "original" if anything is on the jacket (other than the tag). They also appear to be the heavier ribbed (not rib-rack) versions which Alpha has used on some of their recent slimmer/longer models. I remember seeing on e-Bay a modern day civilian jacket with...
That's mostly what police up here wear. I was pulled over just before the last long weekend by one of our provincial highway police after I almost cut him off. After quickly realizing and showing great disappointment that I was stone cold sober, he let me go after complaining about being unable...
Look back over this thread and there's more pics of those 3/4 length coats. I've been on the verge of getting one for a few months now, but I simply have no need for it, so it's tough to rationalize. If you want some links to manufacturers let me know.
^ NYPD motorcycle and horseback police still wear leather coats with jodhpurs and high boots quite extensively. Various police forces here in Ontario wear short leather jackets, jodhpurs and high boots on motorcycles. It's worth pointing out that the increase in use of non-leather jackets by...
