Could be a lighter or undyed Vicenza that he dyes himself.
Vicenza as currently used by Aero was picked/commissioned by Thurston and Good Wear, IIRC. (Himel might have been one of the buyers too, but I don't recall.)
Between the high armholes and shoulder gussets of my Ridley, I get excellent range of movement. High armholes really help the gussets go further, I think.
Even setting aside their criminal behavior, on perfectly practical grounds it would be a mistake to order a shearling from SB.
As has been mentioned here, they stole Aero’s patterns but more relevant in this case is that the shearling jacket patterns they stole were in fact works-in-progress...
You’ll have more ease of movement in a 613/618/118 of equivalent size to a 613S(H), but you’re going to face an initial break in period with any of the steer or horse models.
Since this thread has been bumped anyway, i've noticed these Vanson-Momoa jackets have pretty consistently been at half price on HD's site for the past few months. Have any of you tried them? Hell of a deal for a Vanson.
A few points.
Schott in the US actually used to offer a full custom service up to and including making a pattern expressly for you (the b-word without saying it!) This has been on pause for a few years now.
They'll also switch out hardware post purchase, on request (This is ongoing and I had...
I don’t know of many other makers sourcing that oil tanned hide from them, at least in the west, so he deserves some credit for seeking out something that isn’t the ‘standard’ (among workwear brands) of the black pigment finished brown horsehide.
Does it matter?
There's a lot more to a leather than veg vs chrome. I think what Wested does is great for its intended purpose, but at their price the leather can't be too premium.
Just on this point, I wouldn't worry about it.
It's only an issue with CXL, and even then you can get around it by getting the Universal zipper rather than the repro Talon. Still has the authentic vintage repro pull, but the reliability is that much better.
Wouldn't be surprised if something in that direction were underway, considering the SH now has the repro hardware of the UHT and SJH and those jackets now have the superior pattern of the SH. Some consolidation going on, in a good way.
Just got an email from Legendary advertising their new assless chaps, in case anyone who didn't cancel wants something to match the jacket to.
EDIT: Added ad.
And you can have the black Italian horsehide version he showed for just about the price of the Legendary Hillside. (The photo is old; the buckle has since been changed to the miter buckle as Tom's new jacket.)
