What Would You Ask? The Interview Thread

You've caught me out. I'm protective of what we have here, no doubt. My reaction to the Vanity Fair spotlight piece should have been more welcoming. It will, after all, interest more folks in the things we hold dear - and that's good for The Fedora Lounge. I'm quite certain the author is...

"Thirty Things that Need to Stage a Comeback"

Brass mugs, even if lined with stainless, will cause immediate burns when filled with hot liquid. The chrome plated brass coffee server I have cannot be picked up by the handle when filled with hot coffee. You have to used a hot pad or towel or thickish napkin.

"Thirty Things that Need to Stage a Comeback"

Where on earth do you get that idea? We cover WWI-1960, with a great deal of Edwardian/Disco/Ex-Punker spillover. We aren't all about the 1950's.

What Would You Ask? The Interview Thread

That's the question. And I can't help but think that if the author did any kind of reading/researching on the net, she would have landed here over and over. That's not boasting; it's the reality of Google searching. It would be impossible to look this stuff up and not find The Fedora Lounge...

Personal Hygiene during the golden era? did some people only bath once a week??

When I first saw the house I live in now, the sight of a shower-over-the-clawfoot was a bit of a letdown, and plans were quickly made to replace it. I wouldn't trade it for anything now. To have a big soaker tub and a shower available is the bee's knees.

Thank you for the kind words. Remember, we are much, much more than a "hats" forum. We are the global keepers of the culture of The Greatest Generation. Films, clothes, WWII, music, literature, food, drink, The Great Depression, art, everyday objects, etc. Most of the people who come to The...

If you can believe that a woman in a 1920's film is talking on a cell phone... You probably bought the whole "Y2K computer disaster" hoax.

Is there a way to search for phrases?

I just used the internal search function like so: Search term - "A1 Jacket" (in quotes) I got several, including this: http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?247-Only-Angels-Have-Wings&highlight=A1+Jacket But it didn't seem to give me results in which the two words were necessarily...

Personal Hygiene during the golden era? did some people only bath once a week??

Remember Joan Crawford's comment on seeing Clark Gable for the first time: "He was so... so... CLEAN!" Carole Lombard installed a bathroom for her new husband at their home - no tub, just a shower. He thought baths were unsanitary. As for soap, the first widely marketed soap (indeed, product)...
