South Jersey = Mostly bad. I get more BAD comments here than good. LOTS of stares a giggles. The "good" comments are appreciated, but they are usually awkward (ie, "That's cool! Is that from the 70s?")
North Jersey = No one even gives me a second glance!
Philly = I get mixed responses...
My own family feels this way about me and especially my husband. My husband is from LONDON and he can't believe how worldly-wise my small-town "hick" family thinks they are!! It is kind of humourous in a way. They keep telling him that he's "not a teenager anymore" and that he'll never be...
Magnificent!! I totally agree with you about the 30s. If I had to narrow it down to a favourite span of 10 years I'd pick 1927-1937. The clothes, the art deco, the slang, the hair, the movies, the music -- what's not to love!!??
For me, it's the men who seem to think I'm French. Just last week at work I had a UPS delivery man tell me he thought I was French because I dress nice. And men are always nicer when I tell them of my love of the 20s and 30s. I usually get "Oh really? That's different! That's pretty cool...
I get "Is that a 70s look?" all the time. I also get "Are you from around here? Because I thought you were French." When I worked at Home Depot a few years ago all my co-workers thought I was French because of my style and they claimed I had an "accent" (???) Just a South Jersey accent...
That dress is a LOT like the silk 20s dress that I have!! When the in-laws go home and I have my computer back (instead of this laptop!) I'll probably truly contribute to this fabulous thread. Probably when this thread is on the second or third page of this forum :o
I used to like jerks when I was in my early 20s. I think it was because my self-esteem was so low and I didn't think I deserved any better.
BUT!! When I was 23 I got into silent and 1930s movies, I gained TONS of self-esteem and old fashioned "ladylike"ness, and swore off all the jerks I...
I just wanna visit the Lourve (probably spelled wrong) and Hollywood. I want to visit all my favourite actors' and actresses' graves.
Both of these goals are attainable, too. My husband is from London, so when we go and visit his family they said they would take me to Paris to the Lourve...
LOOKS AMAZING!!
I adore your outfit:

I wear stuff like that on a daily basis ;)
Bob-and-bangs is my favourite haircut and I've worn one since 2001. Right now, though, I'm growing it out just a little...
I'm with jitterbugdoll.
I have two gorgeous suits in perfect condition - one from the 30s and one from the 40s - and I wouldn't dream of wearing them in any type of water. I would only wear them for lounging around in, and then only in the shade.
I know they're not as nice, but if you...
Every once in a while I'll get a real attack of insomnia, but for the most part I'd say I'm a night-owl-wannabe!
I USED to be a serious night owl when I was a kid and when I worked rotating shifts in my 20s. I'd watch an old film at 3am and LOVE it. Nothing is more "right."
Nowadays I...
I had two other dresses from the 1920s at one point. One was sold to me in "Good" condition from a seller online. I thought it was too good to pass up so I bought it. When I got it it literally teared with the touch. I couldn't return it because all sales were final. I think I ended up...
Yes, my 20s dress is silk. I can put it on, but I must be VERY careful. It doesn't tear with the touch, but any type of pulling will tear it. I already have small tears under the arms from taking it on and off. There's also a lace bodice insert in the front that has gone completely brown...
