Thanks,
The straw isn't dirty, it's a fairly new hat. Outside of the discoloration under the ribbon around the stitching the hat is pristine. I guess I'm freaking out because I watched a youtube video that showed about a 3" wide sweat stain all the way around a guys panama. Mine isn't anywhere...
I'm sure this question has been asked before, but I'm having a hard time locating the responses.
Topic removing sweat stains on a panama hat.
I spent all day yesterday at an family get together. It was hot and steamy. I wore my Stetson Ibarra for the first time, but, unfortunately, I forgot...
Thanks, I enjoy it. The hat is a "Hot to Trot" by Dobbs. It's genuine Ecuador straw finished in the USA.
Here's a link with better photos I found online.

These photos were taken during the Great Depression.
It was a time when many guys, especially laborers, couldn't afford a collection of hats. They wore what they had every day of the week. If they had two hats they had a felt one for rain and colder weather and a straw one for the sun and the...
No telling. Going by the foliage on the trees it could be any time between April and October. Can't say what the temperature was. Today it will be 105 so my guess it was purty derned hot. lol
I posted it because I enjoy seeing how average men wore their hats. Not business men or models in...
I found this video showing brick laying techniques and highway construction in during the 1930s along the Bankhead Highway in Texas.
The images show work crews preforming various jobs in the process. It is clear from the lack of shade and trees that these men are exposed to long hours...
Hi,
I'm interested in determining the date of this photo.
Based on hat information only, and a caption giving a location of Dallas, what do you think?
Also, I think it would be great to create a resource to help identify hat ages. The members here have a great deal of information in changing...
Thanks for the compliment. Like finding vintage fedoras, these pieces are still out there, but the really good ones are going to be hard to find.
The ones you see now-a-days are cheaply slapped together often with metal frames and modern style. I haven't seen many that were both attractive...
I like the wide brim and chocolate color. I have a Beaver Brand Fedora very similar to yours that I found in a second hand store for $16. It's currently at the hatter being reblocked and restored. I hope it looks have as good as this one does when it's finished.
Not a hat but a useful accessory.
I found this antique walnut hall tree at an estate sale yesterday. I originally passed it by, but my decision kept gnawing at me all last night. It has some condition issues, but what bugged me was the spacing of the pegs. As you can see, they are perfect for...
For a first attempt, the results look really good. Smooth that block down and it will look even better. I would start out with 100 grit and move up to 220 ... maybe even 400 to get it ultra smooth. Good Saturday afternoon project. :)
Thank you for the excellent photos.
Am I right, all of these hats are essentially variations of Cuenca weave? I see the herringbone pattern in them.
If, so then am I correct that the Montecristi hat is essentially a very fine Cuenca weave?
That answers my original question.
Much appreciated.
