Gotta disagree, I'm not a big fan of that version. It's way too mannered and stolid. If you don't already venerate the novel before seeing it, this movie won't convert you.
Of course, the Baz Luhrmann version is far too frenetic and overdone. But buried beneath the bombast, annoying...
I'm working my way through Iron Fist on Netflix, three more episodes to go. Not as bad as I was expecting based on the reviews, but it's clearly the weakest of their four Marvel series. Both the conception/writing of Danny Rand and Finn Jones' performance is inconsistent and weak, leaving...
Wested does custom work for very reasonable rates, so I'm sure they'd make that one in goatskin. I'd request a cotton lining too, it's much more comfortable than synthetics in warm weather.
Just don't kid yourself that it's comparable to a far more expensive jacket. Wested's stuff is great...
Started watching Iron Fist, the first three episodes. I'm not seeing the negativity of the reviews, so far it seems of a piece with the other Netflix Marvel series. Sure, this story has an awful lot in common with the Bruce Wayne, Oliver Queen, and Stephen Strange (via Chandu the Magician, The...
Of course, apart from the magnificent Superman cartoons, the Fleischers' best work was already behind them by the time they moved the operation to Florida.
A couple of years ago I treated myself to all 100+ b/w Popeye cartoons on DVD (a steal for like $50 at Amazon!)... and while there was...
Talk about the 35mm format that time forgot!
My dad shot stereo slides until late 1963, and I had some of my first photography lessons on his stereo camera. A project I will get to one of these days is going through the thousands of slides he shot from the mid-fifties, and scan the most...
The Earrings of Madame de... A famous French film from the fifties by Max Ophuls that's been on my to-see list for decades. Beautifully filmed, but it was hard to work up any sympathy for the spoiled heroine (Danielle Darrieux) who torpedoes her marriage to a cold general (Charles Boyer) over...
I'm 62 and now more or less retired. I was laid off a few months back and hope to ease into working part-time with my brother-in-law and sister in their home-based collectible business, though it's been slow to get going. I am very lucky that I no longer have kids in college or a mortgage, and...
I know it's the silent Wizard of Oz (1924?) and that's Oliver Hardy as the Tin Man... but I'd have to look up who the Scarecrow and Dorothy are. I don't want to cheat by going to Wiki... The Scarecrow looks like Larry Semon, maybe?
I caught this too. I'm already up on the Carter Family, but I didn't really know about the Memphis Jug Band. Really interesting stuff... and as a reformed Deadhead, it was cool to hear the Jug Band's original recordings of "On the Road Again" and "Stealin'": the Dead played nearly identical...
This was the show's strongest season, much less uneven than the earlier ones. But temper your excitement for next season: a move to Friday night and reduced budget are part of the renewal. The new series The Inhumans will run in the timeslot first, with AoS returning in November. Oddly, there...
Boy, I wish any off-the-rack jacket fit me like that! I'm short and wide: my 654 is a 2XL... and I had to have the sleeves shortened almost three inches.
As others have said, fit is the critical issue with these jackets. But if you're that close to standard sizing, you're halfway there.
Welcome. Your pics aren't showing up.
I have no experience with Aero or the other high-end makers (except Good Wear), but I'll start...
I have a Schott 654, the non-vintaged version - look for a thread where we were discussing it just a few days ago further down. It's only medium-weight...
Just hit an article that lays out in detail pretty much exactly what I said an hour ago!
https://www.vox.com/culture/2017/5/16/15633120/why-tv-shows-get-canceled-ratings-arent-everything
The entire TV landscape is so hugely changed now. Network shows are getting just a fraction of the viewers they used to, and the line between what's worth keeping and what's canceled is less sure than it used to be. Many of today's cancelation decisions are based on what organization produces...
I would agree that Luke Cage was better than the second season of Daredevil, but not the first. I think Jessica Jones is the best Netflix Marvel series so far.
I haven't watched Iron Fist yet, but plan to soon, before The Defenders drops...
