The hat is early 50's. People find receipts in hat boxes all the time, it does not mean that the hat belongs to that box. There was no Open Road like that in "42". What is all the extra writing on the receipt? looks erased...this whole stars and maple leaf thing has a lot of holes in it.

Western Ranch Outfitters still offered a "100" in their 77-78 catalogue for $110.00...also a 7X for $65.00 for a "Rancher" style western. The Open Road was still at $100.00 for the 100 and $55.00 for a 7X and $30.00 for a 3X. The 1981 catalogue shows three Open Road qualities a 10X for $125.00...
