I go thru a bangora straw western hat every Spring/Summer.
I do have some Sun Body palm leafs
as well as an Akubra poly-straw, forget the model name.
I take this hat to the humid areas of South Central Georgia & it serves me well.
I have no worries if it falls in the lake...
I've used Shorty's & Catalena Hatters as well as Optimo to good results in having hats restored.
These were for Open Roads. I don't think Catalena does non-western hats.
Stetson stopped labeling the sweatband & used a paper label attached to the sweat.
If your's does not have this label behind the sweat then the PO removed it.
Stetson put out lots of hats that are of the Open Road style but don't have markings as such.
My 7X CB is not marked so I refer to...

Just reread the part about the double mid-sole = going with another heel stack may...
A friend in Texas does custom hat painting & sources her blanks from Atwood = http://www.soulsisterhatcompany.com/
I have one of their palm leafs but not a felt yet...
The receipt off ebay show purchase of 1974 but you are saying 1960s made....any reason to question the receipt date?
That type of sweatband does look early 70s too....
I don't see a visit to Optimo being that different than the visit we did to Peter Bros in Ft Worth.
Granted we all went to the HatCo factory tour but the visit to Peter Bros & also the Stockyards was fun to me.
I'm sure the proprietor would like a head's up that a group was coming by that may...
It is a classic.
Shows the impact of popularity because I've seen Wanderer models, not Stetson, in catalogs back in the 1930s once I started looking.
It should be a Wanderer ribbon treatment & a Playboy is a Wanderer with a raw edge but we know the Playboy rules!
