I believe the problem with modern scouting is, that they try too hard to be modern! - In order to attract kids.
Instead they should go back to old-school, vintage scouting. As it used to be - and was meant to be. (Hiking, camping, making your food on a fire, surviving...)

Digged out my oldest "Goat" A2 - it proved to be a Avirex (yeah, yeah - I know) bought some 10-15 years ago. Or maybe even more. It still fits - and after a good treatment with Pecard it's as good as... vintage.;)
I believe that "small" countries - like Netherland - without any coal, oil and whatever natureresources has developed a very openminded and outlooking human nature.
And even more so if you have a coastline.
Everything can come to you and everyting you have to offer as a nation and as human...

The danish army was small, badly equipped and were not allowed to fight the invading nazis.
Only a very few did.
My very first Irvin was one of these too. Bought in 1977-78.
I later passed it on to my father - and I guesse he still has it.
Will try to post some pics of it, if possible.
I remeber it as a jacket with a "slightly painted" surface.

When you work in the garden or lie around in the sun on a moutainside in Tuscany.
But whenever we go to town - Sienna, Florence or even the small local one with only one supermarket - I change to trousers.
Otherwise the locals would take me for some bloody tourist!

That is if you do not count Denmark and Norway as "wester european" countries MB.
Denmark and Norway was invaded before The Netherlands (April 9, 1940)
Denmark and The Netherlands were both liberated May 5, 1945.
Norway even later - May 8th, 1945.
Sorry - I forgot...
When I did my national service (drafted) back in 67-68 we only had Garrand. Some were WWII material - and they were all delievered back to US, when the danish army got new rifles.
(Where they were later sold to anybody who wanted one)

I allready have an 10 year old Cockpit goatskin and a Historical Russet Horsehide from Flightsuits, Calif. - and both are nice jackets.
But if I am going for the third one, I want it to be precise and as close to the real thing as possible.
