The fit looks good to me. The chest is a bit bigger by design in this kind of style. I've come to like having extra space at the hem in belted jackets because that's the whole point of the belt. If it's already dead on to your waist, then that's a useless adjustment.
N.b. I realize you don't...
A jacket hit and miss today.
Our forum visitor with the attic find Buco J-24L graciously sold me his jacket and the thing is spotless. Not even the scuffs most of my otherwise mint vintage finds have had.
Stunning grain, which surprised me given some of the 60s steer motorcycle jackets I’ve...
Do you mind posting pictures? Also which of the Schotts did you order?
I ask because the Schotts with stiffer leathers tend to fit closer to the body when broken in.
I both understand your concerns and think the repair person was probably right as well. The A-2 was very much a simple, rushed garment so it falls straight. You need to lean into the fit, which is really a leather windbreaker that fits like an overshirt, to enjoy it.
In contrast, the US Navy...
I'm not making an outlandish claim; I am stating the fundamentals about these jackets. Nevertheless, my source is factory spec sheets, the same forum posts you've read, conversations with the Schott family in person, conversations with the QC team at the factory, etc.
This has been Schott's...
It's not, really.
The only difference is that the 141/118 etc are sized one size bigger than the corresponding 641/618 in the same size. It's not a different cut. A 118 in 40 = 618 in 42; the pattern is the same.
Huh? The “long and straight cuts” like the 626 were a late 2000s fashion attempt, not the main items, and even those have gotten shortened since.
The 618/118 was not “introduced specifically to provide room for larger waists”. They have a four inch drop, which is the same as the 50s and 60s...
I mean people in real life. $600 Vansons (which have gone up since) are usually too much.
Some people will check out vintage but for others that’s not an option especially with size.
Not talking truckers or these guys in particular, just that mid ground of the market.
We don’t really do the whole “legit check????” “how much is this worth????” flipper thing here lol, but this is nothing rare in any case.
Just search eBay for Schott Perfecto.
Honestly when it comes to vintage, especially non-motorcycle, I don’t really care much. I think it’s fine as long as it’s noticeably past the elbow lol.
And no one looking will notice.
Actually based on the motorcycle on the label, I’m going to place this at late 70s to perhaps very early 80s, early enough that the old buckle was in use.
Late 60s through 70s, based on the label and miter buckle.
In the 80s they switched to a sort of flat top/bottom and rounded sides buckle, then in the 90s to a square buckle like the old detachable belt models had.
Sounds like the real solution would be to get the optional belt. It's good that it's slightly loose on the waist; that's the point! Use the belt to cinch as needed.
Honestly, the previous fit looked like crap even on skinny guys, lol. It had no dimensionality to it, just looked like a flat design (made out of beautiful materials). Plenty of friends have it so I've tried it.
Where did you get that purple collar made? I'd love to get one for some of my jackets.
These days but probably not peak TFL Shinki era. :D
I think one of the most interesting things in every hobby is the item that is pretty much respected by all enthusiasts in it (with a minority that builds their identity on hating it), despite not being the most expensive. And usually the guys...
