Can you remember where you were when you heard Princess Diana had been killed?...etc

Princess Di: Was online in the evening. I rarely watch news during the day and so was unaware til @10pm EDT that night. 9/11: I was in Speech class in college. I honestly thought that the feller that told us was using it as an attention getter for his speech.

    The soft "R" in sound

"Hard unrolled 'r' and broad 'i' " is spelled "SE Kentucky/East TN/ SW Virginia Hillbilly" and even our local radio announcers talked that way. Wasn't til @WW2 or so that they started using speech coaches.

My Son Left for the Air Force today...

Speaking as somebody from the other side of the equation, one thing you can (and IMHO should) do is keep them cards, letters and care packages coming! The worst time in boot camp is when you don't get anything at mail call. V/R, AO2

A defining moment in American History

Belleau Wood. The Huns were closer to Paris than at any time in the entire War. The Corps stopped them cold in their tracks. The Argonne is a close second place. American arms did what the Triple Entente couldn't; whip Germany. The American Expeditionary Force's performance in...

Do you believe in little green men?

I think a bit of clarification might be in order. There might well be human beings on other planets, but they would be perfectly indistinguishable from someone on this planet. As Mankind is the highest form of creation in the universe, the thunderous LACK of response to SETI is more evidence of...

We ARE the highest form of life in all of creation. This can be proved, but if I were to post it here the thread would be locked. Call me One of Fourteen.

    WWII Eccentric Heroes

John Cantius Garand. For the uninitiated, inventor of the US Rifle, Caliber .30 M1. Eccentricities: -Was told the M1 couldn't be mass-produced, so he proceeded to invent ALL the tools and dies, etc. to do JUST that. -Had an ice-skating rink in his home.

    Les Paul Biography On PBS

Saw the show myself... I'll say this much: while I appreciate and respect the technological innovations Les Paul brought in, Chet Atkins' playing sounds much more natural and pleasing to my ear.

    Classic Style Magazine #3

    K. T. Keller (?), the President of Chrysler in the early 1950s, insisted that he be able to get in and out of every Chrysler, Desoto, Dodge and Plymouth car with his hat on. He retired by the time the 1955s debuted, and so it began at Chrysler.

    Shooting a pistol

One hand only. They're called handguns and not handsguns for a reason. I'm off to see how many pieces of .45 cal lead I can put through the same hole with my New Service.
