How to get this 40s hair................

I am rubbish with pincurls lol Both would work well, depending on the dexterity of your fingers.

Driving golden era cars in the modern era

This leads me to my next question: Do those cars take longer to accelerate than my 2000 would?

    Favorite liquid eyeliner

I love that trick, it makes my eye colour pop :) I had no idea that Marilyn used it too. I'll have to look very closely at her studio pictures. I use the cheapest eyeliner possible these days since I discovered my lovely primer. The application is flawless, and the staying power is...

Driving golden era cars in the modern era

Double-clutch, in theory, I understand - Using it would be a different story. I only learned to drive a modern manual without stalling or bucking the car about 6 months ago... I would probably massacre a classic car. As for the larger spread, I guessed there might be. I usually shift from 1st...

    Etiquette question

Nope, I wasn't bridal party. It was a strange set-up, actually. The bride had her two sisters as bridesmaids (wearing black and pink). The groom was my then-boyfriend's cousin, and he and his brother were bridal party (black suits, pink ties). Apart from myself, my boyfriend's mother, and...

Driving golden era cars in the modern era

A column shifter would completely throw me off! I routinely use 4th gear when driving on the freeway, so stopping at 3rd would take getting used to aswell lol Thanks for answering!

Driving golden era cars in the modern era

I have a question about manual transmissions in Golden Era cars. I drive a modern 5 speed, but I've noticed that 1950's era manuals are mostly 3 speeds. Does anyone drive one of these? Is there a distinct difference? ETA: I'm no expert on transmissions, but I imagine it would be more...

    Vintage Date???

IMHO, you can only be one or the other. Drive-in? Bowling? Johnny Rockets? Or perhaps we're referring to the lady herself here. :) Cardigan kid, Since you both share such a strong and characteristic interest, I have no doubt this date will be a success!

How to get this 40s hair................

Is that 40's? Looks early 50's to me... You'd need a layered cut for that style. Wet set the entire thing in 1 inch sponge rollers, vertically. The next morning, you'll look like Shirley Temple. Take a brush and brush it all down as flat as you can, and you'll see the ends start to flip...

    Dyeing Clothes

Never been down that road, except for some small, small patches... But I just wanted to compliment your colour choice and say hello again! :D

    Etiquette question

It's a shame, really, because the hat is fantastic. I wonder if it would have been acceptable to wear it to a wedding in 1953 - Probably, eh? A large red flower for your hair would look perfect with that dress fabric. :) The last wedding I went to, the dress code was black and shocking pink...

    Bad Vintage Movies

Kiss Them For Me (1957) was a terrible disappointment. I decided to watch the film because of the cast: Cary Grant is one of the best, and despite Jayne Mansfield being, well, Jayne Mansfield, I can't help but like her. Leif Erickson and Suzy Parker's names added to the recommendation, and...

Keratin Smoothing, Brazilian Blow-outs, etc. and Vintage Hairstyles

Formaldehyde isn't too common in the treatments anymore. Oddly enough though, as mentioned in the original article Clabbergirl linked to, the treatments lost some effectiveness without it. Thats where the Brazilian Blow-Out aims to improve. (I don't have experience with these, though, since...

Keratin Smoothing, Brazilian Blow-outs, etc. and Vintage Hairstyles

(Sorry to keep chiming in!) If you bend the hair at all during the curing period, it will kink. Ditto for rolling the hair - I don't imagine it will come out pretty. One girl came running back to our salon in tears because she put her hair in a loose ponytail-type job, hoping it would go...

    Cute Vintage-y Shoes

Thanks girls! :) They do look much, much better without the strap. I wanted to remove the entire strap, including the extension to the soles, but when I lifted one back, I discovered a really large seam. Bit miffed about that, but still an improvement:

Keratin Smoothing, Brazilian Blow-outs, etc. and Vintage Hairstyles

I helped with a number of these treatments when I was a hairdressing assistant. They will make your hair stick straight. If you don't want this, then I wouldn't recommend it. However, speaking as someone who has naturally stick straight hair, it might make for a smoother set. The treatment...
