Recently I took a swing at a couple of used, H&M short overcoats on the Bay, being sold by some guy in the UK. You never know with H&M since some of their stuff is really nice and some is thin and cheap. Today two really heavy, well made overcoats arrived in the mail (one black, one mustard)...

That means you are 5'-11" tall, which is more or less within a Regular length, so I'm surprised length is an issue for you. But of course body type and weight are factors.
If the pocket is the only flaw, and if it's still usable/functional (which it is, no matter how offensive it might aesthetically), it might have been issued and used. Perhaps not post-war, but during the war I bet the USN would have issued it.

Excellent jacket, Micheal. The proportions are great. The back is particularly nifty, since the action back looks better, to my eye, than the usual Norfolk back, which is basically two strips of cloth sewn down. Very interesting.
Old nylon flight jackets have been steadily increasing in price, due to a combination of scarcity (most are now in collections) and popularity (they are currently faddish). It's just one of those things that happens. I've noticed that incomes don't rise as quickly, though...
Loden coats have always been a source of interest to me. Here's Prince Phillip in one with classic details (click for larger). The royal family's annual march to the Sandringham chapel for their Christmas service is interesting because the whole lot of them show up in overcoats. I'll post more...
