30's Stingie
Here's another acquisition from a fellow lounger - Anon
Straight out of the 30's and from a brand that was a division of John B Stetson company. Black with a Charcoal ribbon
Just snagged this coat off ebay and I'm new to the vintage coat thing so....how did I do?

The beard is gone:eek: Well, you are one of the few who can pull off both looks well. Having had that particular lid in my hands I can say it is quite stellar :eusa_clap
I'll play devil's advocate on this one - it was meant to be a homburg and should've stayed that way. The brim will never quite snap right without a complete re-flange [huh]
Other than that, the colors are matched well
The french topper is a perfect fit on me @ 21 3/4" circumference
The C.H. Garden Co topper is a 22" circumference and is missing its leather sweatband. It still fits though, just a tad more wiggle room.
Not true, Cardigankid - There is plenty of evidence in paintings like the ones above as well as early daguerreotype photos to the contrary of your "No earlier than 1860's" claim.
You must also keep in mind that the two toppers depicted above have been damaged and bent in different spots that...
Thanks to rlk we have determined the french topper was made between 1848-1867 as its liner is indicative of the firm working at the 97 address

For Comparison
Here are some shots of the other Topper I purchased last month which seems to be similiar in age if not older. We were able to confirm that this one was made prior to 1866 but it may be considerably older than that.
