Beautiful jacket for sure… very similar to the first in fit but does look shorter. What options do you have? Have you asked for a remake?
It is certainly not unwearable, if fact it looks pretty good but an inch longer would be better.
I like your idea of stretching the button holes with a dowel, I would keep that up for awhile longer. Maybe a few small incremental increases in diameter. The tight button holes are certainly not uncommon and just require time and wear to loosen up.

Im pretty sure it would be fine, I dont think you could avoid dyeing the sherpa/lining though. it would probably require you to submerge the entire jacket in the indigo dye.. but maybe you could "paint it" on.. with a cheap jacket could be a fun experiment.
