To answer your question, Wikipedia's "Hat" entry states: Traditional hat size is worked out by adding the fore and aft and side to side measurements (in inches) then dividing by two. In the UK, an equivalent hat size is an eighth of an inch smaller than in the US.

I'm sure there's a lot more out there, as I picked this up pretty quickly. Gruber's is second from the bottom in the first column.

What are the lightest vintage felt hats out there?

Very nice. I've handled two Borso featherweights (both a punti 4, ugh) and was amazed at how light they were. Here's my only lightweight hat, from the Stetson-Air-Light thread.

"Sovereign" is tricky, as is "Imperial". I think that both have been models and quality designations. Neo, just for a quick run down, here's the basic order for Stetson quality in dress hats. The distinctions are dependent upon the hats being from the same era. Later hat of a given...

PreBay Summer Straw Sale Spectacular--Selections Several Sizes

There are some great hats in large sizes here. I'm surprised that they're still available.

It's the other way around. I don't recall if the St. Regis is generally a Royal or a Royal Deluxe but, in either case, Sovereign is a higher quality felt.

They're not quite one size, but they are S,M,L,XL. The L is pretty darn big, as I typically wear a 7 1/2 or 7 5/8 hat and the L is comfy and loose (but not too loose).

Depending upon the cap, I think it starts at $60 and goes up to $90. The only one's currently available are denim and are $90. Shipping from Japan is free. Like I said, I love mine and will be buying another when more styles and/or materials become available. Where to buy (and I agree that...

    The Cap Faction

He posted it earlier in this thread, but I've since bought one of Viper Man's Lofgren caps. I love this thing and will buy another in the future. The sweat is wider than most sweats I've seen on vintage caps, and it's also thicker, making it very comfortable.

    Reproduction classic workwear

Thanks for the positive comments. VM, the Lofgren cap is better than any vintage cap I've handled - though my experience with caps is somewhat limited. The width and quality of the sweat is what really sets it apart. Again, if you're ever looking to get rid of a few more, I'm in.
