I definitely like the Heritage sweats better although I do prefer the imperial felt. My imperials are definitely softer than my heritage but my heritage has softened up considerably. I tell you what modern hat has a nice sweat is my premiere Stratoliner. -

Thanks Bob! I also re-creased my light weight granite VS into a Cattleman and I like it really well. That hat needs to come out soon. Wide ribbon cattleman creased hats remind me of the early twentieth century, teens through the early thirties. -

Looking For a Formal Fedora
With what you are looking for I will say you need an Akubra Federation IV. That'll give you a nice 4.5", straight sided, creased crown, 2.5" x 2.75" dimensional brim in your budget and plenty of color options. Very durable hat as well. Just my $.02. -
