    new consumer habits.

Dumpster diving = antiques to stock Maine shops and flea markets. It's why we have so many stores! I'm with you. Many of the "sacrifices" people talk about making, well it's just how I've always lived!

    Why are wrinkles undesireable?

Who do you think is more harsh? The opposite sex, or other women?

    Why are wrinkles undesireable?

Why do we like to collect old things, but when it comes to personal aesthetics, we try to hide those very same things we adore in material objects? The signs of history, experience and character? Well?

"Sounds of Sinatra" is gone from my Philco

Every weekend a local a.m. station would broadcast "The Sounds of Sinatra with Sid Mark" every Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. It's the only time I listen to my 50's Philco, or if taking a drive, I listen in my car. The radio station was abruptly changed to talk radio and...

The dishwasher in a classic kitchen

I don't agree with the notion that one is being hostile to the earth by hand washing dishes, and as many articles have pointed out, it depends on the method of hand washing and the production and disposal of dishwashers (non human) is polluting the planet. My new vintage house is within walking...

But..."others argue that when additional factors, such as the manufacture of the unit, the pollution created during distribution and the energy required to make the detergents used in them, are taken into account, it is questionable what is best." http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/5398700.stm...

The birth of the ranch house.

Although I grew up in a cramped NYC apartment I've always loved the 50's ranch because my grandmother lived in one; my fondest memories are spending time in her house and yard. Also, as some mentioned, single level living is good for those with bad knees which I have. I also want a house in...

The dishwasher in a classic kitchen

Many old films and sit-coms have scenes involving discussions while hand washing, rinsing and drying the dishes. :) I grew up hand washing dishes. A dishwasher saves time- for what? More time with the other gadgets?

The dishwasher in a classic kitchen

The 50's ranch I am buying does not have a dishwasher and I don't want one. Most of my life I did them by hand. I find it to be relaxing. How many people here do their dishes by hand? Why or why not?
