Scott - nice pic. As stated yesterday: Some get away with it, others don't.
You guys certainly do!
And even if I only look like a air corps veteran, I would still like to talk to you guys. :)
Just googled "Overweight reenactors" - where's the credit and the honour in this?
lol lol lol
If I was a veteran seeing this, I would just turn my back and walk away.
Might be opening a can of worms here - but anyway, let's give it a shot and try to keep it civilized...
I do find it very great and fantastic that some girls and guys will spend time and money on recreating history. Even down to the smallest button.
But when they claim, it's in honour of the...
Thank you!
I do believe, I have finally realized, that I will NEVER, EVER find a original WWII Irvin in the right size.
So why not do the utmost to make a repro look and feel as close to the real thing as possible.
And be happy with that!
Hi Mike
And welcome. I think nobody answered because normally you introduce yourself in the "sticky thread" in the "Observation Bar". You just went under the radar - so to speak. But anyway: You'll get a lot of friends here and obtain a lot of knowledge from fellow loungers. Have fun!

After watching my jacket "age with beauty" after the rough treatment, I have decided not to give it Pecard for the moment.
I like the rough, slightly wrinkled surface far too much. To me it came as a bonus, as it was really the fluffy (blowdried) fleece I was after.
You don't need it. I am sure you don't need it.
But if you can't live without it, get it.
Who are we to decide? Other than a bunch of aficionados and "style fanatics".
Found a bunch of pics taken when the Irvin was new - just out of the box in September 2009.
Posted them side by side with pics taken today. After wearing the jacket for one and half year and soaking/drying it twice.

(Sorry...
At the mo it's still hanging in a dry, ventilated room waiting for the Pecard treatment - if necessary.
The jacket looks absolutely fab - in my opinion. And as John L. stated - even the outside changes too.
Will post some pics of the whole jacket asap.
(By the way - and quite off topic: How's...
Thank you all - and sorry about that doctor dan ;)
The last thing I planned to do now - the Pecard treatment - has to wait at bit.
John Lever gave me lots of info and support at the VLJ Forum, and he told med to let the jacket dry up completely.
Which could take a week or more.
The leather...
Improvement? I think so:
Here you can actually see a small area where the fleece still - or almost still - looks like the old one.
And what else happened to the jacket - did it shrink? No!
Did it ruin the surface of the leather? No!
Did the leather become more stiff? Yes!
But the next...
Smithy: Look at it this way: Shot down in the channel, picked up. hanging the Irvin up to dry. Piece of Cake!lol
And Andrew, I will try to take some shots for comparison, when it's dry and ready.
Almost 24 hours since the the Irvin went swimming and now the fleece is almost dry - the leather on the outside is still wet/damp...is it the tumbler coming up next?
Uuuhhh...exiting!
