Have to ride my bicycle across town today to resupply in coffee beans. Should stay warm

Very, very windy here this morning. So the aerodynamically favored Stetson bowler comes out to play.

Thanks D. It's a Dobbs Sixteen Fifty from the latter half of the 1940s that I just acquired. The coat is a Lands' End Charter Collection model in some Austrian Loden cloth. I think Lands' End used that label for only a couple of years in the 80s for a try at some higher end market.
You were...
I don't know, the 70s should be good for some jokes too. I don't remember all of the specifics of the label you showed, but the 2 digit number after the DSA100 should be the year the contract was let, the C means contract was the type of instrument. So with your label the contract was let in...
Thanks Steve. My shopping has been going downhill lately, but there are still some good days.
Thanks Stefan. I'm pretty happy with it.
Both great looks, but the Bird is the Word.
I like that hard felt and soft felt combo. But I think your Reefer is from a 1974 contract.
Thanks all,
Michael
Thanks Gamma68. This jacket has been relined and has no labels, but someone, I forget who, posted some photos of their Californian Pony Hide and it seems exactly the same in every detail. And I think the zippers on this one say early 50s too. Have you posted your Lawrence recently?
Thanks...
I picked up a couple of ties yesterday at my favorite thrift's monthly half price sale.

The left one is handmade wool and the right is a generic square bottom skinny. And by generic I mean it doesn't have any labels.

Californian Pony Hide. Is that right?

Have a great jacket day,

Thanks Bob. The mojo works now and then, but not as often as it used to.
Thanks Perry. The shirt and tie were finds from yesterday, too. West Wool brand snap front shirt and handmade wool tie, both courtesy of half price day at my favorite thrift.
Thanks all,
Michael
Back under the new Sixteen Fifty for now. I gave it a bit of a steam and brush this morning.

Thanks Charlie. It would be one of my oldest hats if that dating holds up.
Thanks Max. The liner is in pretty good condition and I like that coach logo.
Thanks Red. The felt does have a higher quality feel to it. I have the patent that is referenced on the paper label located and I'm going...
Nice leather cap, Sonero. I think in cap making they often sew a twill tape under the head band finish, whatever that is made out of. Twill tape has very little stretch in it, so it keeps the cap to the stated size.
Happy Birthday. Have a great day.
Michael
Thanks D. The coat really wasn't wanting to show up in photos today. It was another find from the vintage store today.

Goes well with the hat. Both are sort of chocolate brown. The hat is very smooth, the coat is very rough.

I looked at the Dobbs dating thread and I'm going to have to go with 1940s. I hadn't even noticed it, but it has the Guild Edge debossment on the sweat. So that puts it post 1944. And the paper label

looks to pre-date 1950 as well. Where he shows the...
Looks perfectly formed from here. My old Portis, on the other hand, has kinks and bends and absolutely refuses to lose them. But it's soft as a puppy's ear, so I cut it some slack. And that reminds me, it's about time to throw it on my head for a day. Soon.

Found this Dobbs Sixteen Fifty in a local vintage store today.

I'll pop a few more into new hats.

Always love to see the Knox Stratoclone come out to play. Great hat, Red.
Thanks Doug. I really like that Stanley Blacker jacket.
I am guessing this one is from the 60s. It could be that they dropped the brand name at some point around that time. Where do you trade in your Craftsmen gear now...
