    The Lost Art of Manliness

In the example I gave, I mean that he is pro putting himself in harm's way to boost the morale of American troops. I didn't mean to say that a real man must love guns and war.

How to be a Hepburn in a Hilton World

    The Lost Art of Manliness

OK, I need to jump in. I am a Rollins fan! He entertains the troops in Iraq- THAT'S A MAN! He reps the wimps of the world (listen to his spoken word stuff)- THAT'S A MAN! He advocates being healthy and true to yourself- WHATTA MAN!

    Why are wrinkles undesireable?

Looking through the posted then-and-now pics (and thanks for posting them), I think hair dye like in the pic directly above this post and heavy makeup only ages a women even more.

    The Lost Art of Manliness

When my husband was still in the Marine Corps he often would bring me a yellow rose because he knew I loved them. What is the meaning of a yellow rose? Heck if I know. (This from someone who has Victorian era books on the language of flowers!) I think it's manly to be tuned into what a lady...

    Kitchen Linens

One other thing- I've started using vintage bath towels (circa 50's and 60's) and the ones I have are much smaller than contemporary towels!

Golden era door to door solicitors

I work from home and expect package deliveries from time to time, so I do need to stop what I'm doing to see who is at the door.

    Kitchen Linens

I bought a large collection of vintage kitchen towels this weekend. I picked out those I want to add to my collection and the rest, I'm going to use! I go through a lot of paper towels in a day and would like to reduce that. Does anyone here use mostly kitchen linens, even for napkins, and...

Speaking of soliciters, Paper Moon is one of my favorite films.

Golden era door to door solicitors

I don't think anyone should feel the need to defend being "rude" in their defense of their privacy when, after the first "no thank you", the solicitors persist. :) If simply walking away after a polite "no thanks" and ignoring the doorbell is rude, I'm in.

Golden era door to door solicitors

I agree with you in that sales people are trained to overcome "resistance" so that someone saying "no thank you" is often seen as a barrier to overcome as opposed to what it means.

Golden era door to door solicitors

I don't live in a gated community and your sanctimonious tone, assumptions made about what I've done and not done mixed with party on dudery is not my style, so please don't come a knocking at my door. As for here on the FL, there's a nice conversation going on here between people sharing what...

Golden era door to door solicitors

When I am in the middle of something, "five seconds of my time" can be a big inconvenience. I think it's mighty rude for people to solicit despite a "no soliciting" sign. I do not know of a centralized "opt out" for Jehova's Witnesses. They are doing this on their time and dime at my home...

Golden era door to door solicitors

Jehova's Witnesses. Avon calling. They'll always be around. In the past I've put up a no soliciting sign but they knock anyway. How do you deal with them? Do you invite them in? Buy something? read pamphlets? Scowl and shoo them away?

Lizzie posted this in another thread, it's a great article. As another Mainer, I can say it's all true!

Is there something you really want to wear but are chicken?

I've started to wear something I was afraid to put on- my vintage sparkly/glitzy/maybe garish costume jewelry!

    Vintage Cartoons

"Remember when men wuz men, and wimmin wuz wimmin'?" Not an exact quote maybe, but I recall Yosemite Sam saying that and I didn't get it as a little kid. Now I get it. Bugs dressing in drag to foil the enemies- priceless. Women shrieking and jumping on a chair because of a mouse- love it.
