Kitchen Linens

I bought a large collection of vintage kitchen towels this weekend. I picked out those I want to add to my collection and the rest, I'm going to use! I go through a lot of paper towels in a day and would like to reduce that.

Does anyone here use mostly kitchen linens, even for napkins, and little to no disposable napkins, etc?

I don't know about mostly, but I grew up, and still use a lot of linens.

We have a clean towel to wipe hands on, one for dishes, etc. I tend to only eat at work, and all they have are paper ones, so I don't use anything at home too often, but when I do, it's usually a towel, since most of the time I eat alone, and don't eat a lot/sit down to do it. (Bad manners on my part, I know.)

I don't buy paper towels or napkins. I grab a roll of them from my parents and it'll last me a good 2-3 months, however. I do have several novelty luncheon napkins (looking I've got Transformers, Pokemon, Tiki and some with my son's name of them) for him because I throw them in picnics and hand them to him with snacks and things. When I do sit down to eat, or entertain, I use cloth.

I have a bunch of old Pullman towels, from railroad cars -- they're extremely stout linen, woven with a blue stripe that says "PROPERTY OF THE PULLMAN COMPANY 1933." They're practically indestructible, and wash out very nicely.

Paper towel has its place -- nothing like it for sopping up spills or draining bacon -- but I get enough of paper napkins at work.

I have some striped towels that sound similar to yours in quality marked "Glass Cloth"!

One other thing- I've started using vintage bath towels (circa 50's and 60's) and the ones I have are much smaller than contemporary towels!
