Casein is cheese
Well, it is the protein in milk. Since cheese is made from milk (I exclude tofu, even though it is sometimes marketed as vegetarian cheese.), except for fat, casein is what's in cheese, along with the bacteria that turns milk into cheese and any additional flavorings.

Tony Manero lives!
I can't believe somebody didn't beat me to it! Here with a special edition of "What Not To Wear", direct from Brooklyn, ... Can't you just hear the Bee Gees?
I own more than a dozen pairs
Yes, I am quite satisfied. I like some pairs more than others, certainly. You will find some (dare I say it?) shoe snobs who will tell you that they aren't as good as they once were, I couldn't say. I wasn't buying grown-up shoes 40 or 50 years ago. I have large...
Rubbers (no snickering, now ...)
I started a thread on this topic (rubber overshoes) last week. So far I got one reply. The problem with them is two-fold: getting them on and off is a struggle; they tend to "erase" the shine by rubbing off the polish.
Is it salt, or something else?
I've had this happen to me in the middle of summer. I was walking back to work from having lunch one afternoon this past summer in downtown Washington, DC, when I was caught in a sudden storm. There hadn't been any salt on those sidewalks for six or more months...
I'm looking for good rubber overshoes. "OK," you say, "what do you think makes a good rubber overshoe?". Well here are my criteria:
1) Easy to slip on and off my shoes
I have at least three pairs of rubber overshoes that I have bought at different times
(one to keep at home, one...
As the author of this web site might say, here is le dernier cri of pocket square folding. There is a wide variety of folds pictured and detailed in superb downloadable PDF format.
"You want me to do what!?"
I asked Art Fawcett for this once and got his signature incredulous reply. Apparently this is a high-risk and labor-intensive effort. Maybe that's why there aren't a lot of examples floating around. Double and even triple bows, yes, but ribbons, not so much.
NY MTM suits
At $495, my inference is that they are doing the measuring locally and off-shoring the production to Bangkok, or some place similar. With Bangkok being under water these days, they may be doing the work elsewhere.
My go-to MTM suit maker is Prince Henry in Bangkok. The average...
Classic Movie Use of "Cute"
In one of my all-time favorite movies (Farewell My Lovely), ex-con Moose Molloy is trying to persuade Phillip Marlowe to find his girlfriend from whom he hasn't heard in eight years (the time he was imprisoned for a heist). Moose (Jack O'Halloran) stands nearly a...
How much can the waist be reduced?
After an eighteen-month effort, I have reduced my waist size from the 40" of this suit to 34". So, how much could the waist be reduced for the trousers of this suit" Is six inches too much to remove?
Farewell My Lovely
One of my very favorite pictures. Philip Marlowe asks Moose Malloy,
"What's she look like, this Velma?"
Moose stares at Marlowe for a moment,
"Cute. Cute as lace pants."
