    U.S. Navy bridge coats

Oh man, you find the best stuff, Micheal !!! Perfect fit, too. Keep the gloves with the coat in case you decide to sell it someday. Too bad you can't i.d. who the original owner was.

    Canadian Varsity Jackets

That black WLU jacket brings back memories. I was at UofW in the early 1990s and lots of people, mostly engineering students but others too, bought those jackets in first year. I was in geography and a friend of mine got one and wore it all four years. I liked them but was reluctant to get one...

Schott 618hh. The good, the bad, and the ugly.

I don't know why Schott doesn't make the kidney piece on the back into a tunnel and run a 360 degree belt through it which would allow for much more adjustment. It's what I would do if I was designing or commissioning this type of jacket.

    Help with Barbour Tartan

^ Well done, you've gotten lucky. Barbour has used "real" tartans from time to time and in the old catalogues they used to list it specifically.

    Help with Barbour Tartan

Just remember that the lining is a cotton cloth, not wool, so even if you determine what the tartan is you may never be able to find it in cotton. As Lean&Mean implies, patched Barbours (or any waxed jacket for that matter) still look good even if the patches aren't a 100% match, so don't be...

ALL REPRO R.A.F. Irvin type jackets

Earlier this year I was thinking of buying a WPG jacket and as part of that process I accumulated the following measurements by scouring this site, VLJ, and the interweb. The part in white at the right lists the source for each set of measurements with some notes/comments. I never did get a WPG...

USAF N-3B parkas - Let's talk about them!!

Schmauder is in Europe so he can patch to his heart's delight and not worry about making a faux pas like an American would wearing an un-earned patched jacket in the U.S. It's odd how N3B coats were never (or rarely) patched. Like you suggested, most were probably issued by quartermasters on an...

Trench Coat - the 'Ultimate' Thread!

Got today a used Burberry trench coat, with zip-out wool liner, about 10 years old (later tag). Canada Post said "package arrived in Canada damaged" but when I picked it up the box was fine and the coat in mint condition. Go figure. Anyways, I'm delighted, this coat will be very welcome this...

    MA-1 Flight jacket

Bingo. To get a more useuable length for wearing with trousers you gotta go to a Gibson from Buzz, which are made with a historically-incorrect extra-long torso, or you have to start wearing old-school high-waist trousers.

USAF N-3B parkas - Let's talk about them!!

I do not have the depth of knowledge of others on these coats, but I spend too much time looking at photos and I have not seen any N3Bs with patches either.

Might as well go for it. I would never like to see a mint coat being patched post-hoc, but one that's banged around a bit? Sure why not.
