I don't think I belong here at all. I don't dress vintage at all. I don't live vintage - at all.
I live and work in this century.
But I have an interest in Battle of Britain and the WWII period.
I collect books on that subject - primarily Battle of Britain. And I have a very small collection...
Just bought the book: The Face of Courage - The complete selection of Eric Kennington's warpaintings.
Here is the portrait he did of Lewis in 1941 while he was recovering from his burns. I guess that is why the artist has shown Lewis in full flying gear - Irvin jacket and leather gloves. I have...
Saw this one in Liberty House, London the other day:
KEEP CALM
and
CALL MOM
lol
By the way - here's a link to a site where you can generate your own poster:

One of the more solid errors in war-time movies is to hang that poster on the wall in the background, revealing that you know absolutely nothing about the period you are pretending to create. I've seen it a couple of times, though. ;)

The picture you are referring to was made because I had just bought the helmet, googles and mask to add to my very, very small collection of RAF gear. (Nothing compared to my collection of Battle of Britain and RAF...
You got it, ol boy.
I'll be happy to check it out for you, as soon as I get the book. And if it's in there, I'll mail you a scan/jpg.
The above of Lewis is in the book from 1942 "Drawing the RAF" - bought it second hand a year ago. Some great pieces of art - mostly charcoal and pencil - but a...
Two Types - this seems to be your turf, so allow me to pop a question: Where do I get hold of a striped silk scarf or cravat. Old school/regimental type - not the real thing - just so you get an idea of what I am looking for. Or are they called something else? Squares maybe...I have been...
Oh - we couldn't have that, could we? ;)
I have no intention of doing the look-a-like thing - any other colors will do nicely, thank you - it's the style I am after. The striped cravat/scarf/square - whatever it's called...:)
Got a question. All though I own a fair amount of cravats, I am still searching for something like this:
or this:
Edward Fox also wore a striped scarf/ascot in the opening scene of Battle of Britain (the movie).
I don't know if they are cravats, scarves of squares - but how do I get hold...
Just like he did this one of one of my favorite pilots from The Battle of France and The Battle of Britain: Albert Gerald Lewis, 85 Squadron/249 Squadron:
