Personally I find that 1938 version of A Christmas Carol unwatchable.
I'm not a fan of the 1970 musical Scrooge either, though Albert Finney makes a valiant effort. (Same with Michael Caine in the Muppets version.)
And I'm somewhat underwhelmed by the Patrick Stewart version... Apparently...
David Prowse, the guy who was inside the Darth Vader suit:

I binged the latest season of The Crown and really enjoyed it. Not to say that the whole cast isn't splendid, but I predict an Emmy nom for Helena Bonham Carter for her outstanding performance in the Princess Margaret-focused episode.
I had a US A seal horsehide A-2 for over a decade. I bought it in person from Shaul in 2002. He assured me that with wear the surface coat would wear off and a lovely patina would develop. It never happened, despite plenty of wear in rain and snow.
Some panels developed nice grain, some...
Definitely a consumer. I only buy brand new hats in my current size. And I only have around eight in my annual rotation, which doesn't remotely qualify as a real collection on this forum.
The only vintage hats I own are ones that I bought new or used MYSELF back in the sixties/seventies...
I got my son a Wested jacket a few years ago that they call a classic blouson:
Of course, MANY knit-collar baseball jacket/MA-1-styled leathers similar to this are very common these days.
For me, yes, the vents make a surprising difference. Face it, you're going to sweat with anything on your head in sun and heat, but I find the Cattleman no hotter than a straw hat. But compared to a straw hat it's nearly indestructible, mine's held up great through 13 summers of yard work and...
I have a Regency Fawn Leisure Time and think it's a very nice hat. I avoid wearing it in summer because it is lined and has no vents, and it gets hot. (In the summer, I wear my Sand Cattleman - wider brim, lighter color, no lining, six vents.) The Regency Fawn is a hard-to-photograph...
Just saw this myself.

I'm most of the way through The Queen's Gambit, just one episode left, and agree the period details are very good, and Anya Taylor-Joy is excellent (she's been on my radar since The VVitch). However, it exhibits classic Netflix bloat: seven episodes with about five episodes worth of story.
I...
The Current War, in which Tom Edison (Benedict Cumberbatch) and George Westinghouse (Michael Shannon) battle over whether the world will be wired for DC or AC electricity in the 1880s/90s. Cumberbatch and Shannon are always a hoot to watch... but this is essentially the History Channel's The...
Watching this forum for many years has convinced me that Akubra's Carbon Grey, Mid-Grey, and Steel Grey are all the same very dark shade... which often reads as black in less than bright lighting.
Fantastic film, I just caught it on TCM a couple of years ago and have been wanting to watch it again. A reminder that besides his more obvious skills, the thing that makes Kurosawa a truly great filmmaker is his humanity: his ability to make you care for his characters, to believably show...
Designer Ron Cobb, whose iconic contributions to seventies and eighties SF films were and remain brilliant:

1961MJS, I live two hours north of NYC and never visit the canyons of Manhattan. We've got nice small towns/cities and farms here like much of the country... but virtually nobody wears western hats. I mean, I'm 65 years old and I don't recall the last time I saw someone wearing one other than...
The lining makes a real difference. My Cattleman is unlined and has been my go-to warm weather hiking and yard work hat for years. The vent holes and lack of liner, and Sand color, make it no hotter than a straw hat, IMHO. I mean, you're gonna sweat with anything on your head in...
